How exactly do you beat Roy Jones Jr in his absolute prime? What's the game plan?

Punch him pretty hard I'd reckon.

He’s too quick to counter, so you’d have to try and punch with him.

Whilst i'd still make Roy a clear favourite, I'd give a prime Calzaghe probably the best chance to beat Roy at 168 - due to his swarming / volume style and adapatability.
@175 I'd favour Spinks to beat RJJ

Roy did manage to pick his fights well - not many elite southpaws or big hitters.

But in his pomp he was special

Eddie Futch. He can gameplan for any ATG his fighter faces.

    I’m with you…
To me, prime Roy was just about unbeatable…

My favourite fighter by a mile is Hagler. He’s the one who got me addicted to boxing when I was younger and I hate to say it but I think prime Roy beats him.

    I also think Roy’s prime was middleweight…
I think people forget how devastating he was at 160 and 168.
He had speed that’s never been matched, really good power at the lower weights combined with stamina for days.

The Ring magazine used to do year end awards and they listed Merqui Sosa as having the best chin in boxing as he had fights with really good guys and took an incredible amount of punishment without going down.
The Ring looked foolish a couple of months later when Roy absolutely wrecked him in two rounds.
Jones had said before the fight that he was going to obliterate the guy with the best chin in boxing just to prove a point.

I have heard the question asked sometimes, who could have won a title in their first fight???
I believe if Robert Hines fought Roy instead of Darin Van Horn, Roy would have won the light middleweight title in his first fight easily.
He would have beat Van Horn in his first fight as well in my opinion…

The guy was an absolute phenom!!!

    Nail him to the canvas.

Beterbiev could have done it, and Bivol from this era would also have given him problems.

Were I a trainer, and had I a top notch pupil with real talent, my advise and my strategy would be the following: "duck him, don't fight him".

Easy as that. You cant lose to prime roy if you don't fight him

Best strategy would be to have Panama Lewis in your corner, hire a nutritionist from Canelo’s camp, get your hands wrapped from Margarito’s camp and wear Josh Taylor trunks incase it goes to the judges

    Not according to this forum.
Throw the name "67 Ali" or "Prime Ali" out there and try making an argument for any other fighter...see how fast they try and shut you down.

Remains to be seen about RJ.

For the record, I think Calzaghe would be a tall order for him any time they fought.
    Same with Ward at 168.
I'm sure there's a lot of ppl out there who think he'd have a rough and tumble time keeping his antics up for 12 rounds against Beterbiev.

Beterbiev is too slow and easy to hit for a prime rjj. Ward is somewhat similar to hopkins and gets schooled. Calzaghe with his activity would probably be the hardest match up but he's levels below a prime rjj and loses clear.

Get him to punch you while one knee is on the canvas.
