How exactly would you define “Domestic Level”?

The domestic level IMO would make them a local level type fighter for example within the U.S. this could be regional circuit or in the 80-90's ESPN/USA level a journeyman but not world level as in a contender

I don't know, Coetzee is a national fighter who seems to keep cropping up just below the front rank from about 1983-93. Maybe Niellsen too. His record is quite good in sheer numbers but when I go through the names I hardly recognize any.

 

I looked it up in the dictionary and there was a picture of Herbie Hide.

 

It's someone who is not a factor among the world title contenders but ranks high among the boxers of his own country.

It's changed a lot over time. When travel was harder, domestic champions really meant soemthing, at the very least amoung the best i the country, now it's either a stepping stone or a step below fringe world level.

 

I'm regional level. Them regions being the bathroom(after dark), the loft and the bit of the garden where the weeds flourish and the cat shits. Pugilistic gaffer of them regions, everywhere else not so much, more of a mucky spit bucket. I love my wife.

 

The psychological reason is that my eyes are painted on, dude. I'd never even noticed. Off now to find a picture of a pig licking a battery. Or a boxer! A boxer sounds better. Carl Frampton, 2016 Fighter of the Year and 2 weight world champ, still rated top 2 in his division and with a win over a top 10 p4p fighter is domestic level?.... I've heard it all

 

It's basically guys who are capable of winning against the guys outside the elite in their division.
So not recent world title challengers, or near future ones, not obviously, world champions, but guys who are the best of the rest effectively, in the same division, in their country.

Some names would be, Sean Dodd, Luke Blackledge, Dereck Chisora would be that level now, although he has been above it in the past.

Guys who are above journeyman level, and some of the best of the rest in their country within their weight, but more than capable of taking losses from journeymen and also sometimes a slight chance of beating guys who are above domestic level.

They generally aim for British title fights and remain around that level, but can rise above it for a period while in their primes maybe, before coming back down or whatever

Different definitions in Britain and US. In Britain it's guys who fight for the regional belts (English, Commonwealth, British) and lose above that level. Guys like John Thaxton, John Murray etc.

In USA it's more a journey man type fighter, guys like Carson Jones, Edner Cherry etc.
