I love the guy. Let's not forget, this Donaire fight is not Rigondeaux's only pro fight. He is exciting and usually wins by knockout. He just happened to be in with one of the very best pound for pound fighters in the world. Not to mention the fact that Nonito has fight ending power. Forgive him if he fought smart and dominated his opponent with science. I was on my feet for the whole fight!
On a scale of 1-10 it's probably an 8.5 or 9 for me, depending on the opponent. Always looking forward to his body shots and ability to make guys miss. It's a thing of beauty. I'm not sure why people harp sooooo much on Rigo's ability to entertain. You can't criticize his boxing abilities....so..you have to point out his inability to speak English and his unwillingness to throw 1,000 punches? Sounds immature. A few things that make it very possible to sell his fights: 1. He does have KO power and has proven to stop guys with one shot 2. He has good trash talking skills. He can be brought up as a funny Spanish speaking villain a la Mayorga. 3. There is mystique in his background. He can easily be called the greatest amateur fighter in the history of boxing. 4. Athletic ability. He made "The Filipino Flash" look like a snail. It's a matter of effort. Ignore the boos from the crowd last Saturday. They don't represent the majority of boxing fans. They were butthurt Filipinos who can't accept the fact that Donaire was losing.
