    him and mccloskey would be a great fight, think he will do very well at the weight unless it kills him to do it

    he,s very quick' though not a big puncher, does this mean a fight with lenny daws in sept, oct, time. seems an easy fight to make as both with hennessy.

    doesnt have the power to go any further then european level. i think he should make more use of his reach (watch the watson fight). Arent there a few question marks over his chin? seem to remember hearing he got sparked by a jounreyman? how did he get on last night?

    Don't think that fight will get made.
    In yesterday's post-fight interview the names he mentioned were Olusegun & McCloskey.
    Mick has very few beltholders, and has always been reluctant to make fights involving two from his stable. Rather than pass the belt on in house, i'm sure he rather try to add another headliner to his diminished stable.
    Barker-Elcock was only scheduled when Elcock had been demolished by Macklin and looked to be on the slide, and Murray-Thaxton was made only after Jono had lost two (albeit contentious) decisions in a row.

    As regards John O'Donnell I think the move to lww is strange.
    The domestic welterweight scene seems to have weakened in recent months, with Watson moving down to lww, and Brook seemingly on the verge of an interim WBO shot.
    I think O'Donnell would beat Daws, but he'd lose to McCloskey & Olusegun.
    Not to mention the fact that Gavin will be closing in on a British title shot in the not to distant future.

    Agree with all that.

    Mick not making Barker vs Elcock was a strange one, Elcock was struggling like **** with Darren McDermott before the bull**** stoppage and had had his day in the sun vs Abraham.

    Instead he allowed Macklin to step in and take advantage when his career was going absolutely nowhere.... now Barker has come back to the fore but still..... Mick let him down by protecting an old fighter.

    I think O'Donnell will do OK, but Gavin will beat them all once he's let of the leash. Sooner rather than later hopefully.

    John O’Donnell successfully returned to the ring after an eight month absence to produce a display of controlled, delectable boxing which had connoisseurs of perfect pugilism licking their lips. O'Donnell's performance also forced his name into contention for a tilt at Paul McCloskey’s European light-welterweight title.

    The London based Galwegian picked apart durable Hungarian Laszlo Robert Balogh inside five rounds on the undercard of the John Murray-Gary Buckland contest for the European lightweight title at the Kingsway Leisure on Friday, May 7. The fight blew away any potential iron oxide which may have developed on his joints during his lay off and improved the former Commonwealth welterweight champion's record to 23-1 (KO 11).

    O’Donnell has now dropped down a weight to challenge at light-welter and weighed in lighter than at any time in his career since his debut six years ago. Although still just a smidgen over the 10 stone limit the slick southpaw appeared comfortable at the weight and well able to cut the final pound to make the championship limited of 140.

    The Shepards Bush stylist bounded impatiently to the ring accompanied by his trainer Robert McCracken and got straight down to business in the first. The taller rangier O’Donnell looked to land scythe like right hooks but was getting picked off as he moved into the danger zone, an occupational hazard of having your six shooters slung at waist height. As the opening round drew to a close O’Donnell grew in confidence and landed a variety of complex combinations until the bell rang for respite.

    With any remaining rust brushed off a determined O’Donnell came out in the second and for the next six minutes he purposefully prowled panterlike pummelling Balogh in an exhibition of controlled aggressive boxing which Mayweather Jnr would have been proud of. Switching from head to body and delivering corkscrew uppercuts barely a punch was wasted in the two fisted assault.

    His style, the way he drops his head as he is coming forward with his hands low reminds me a lot of Calzaghe. I don't think he will ever reach those dizzy heights but he looks decent.

    Light Welter is probably the deepest division domesticly.

    Witter may be moving up but Craig Watson is planning to come down from Welterweight and Gavin Rees could always come back up.
