how far can nick blackwell go?

Euro level maybe. He needs to stop getting hit so much. That said, he provides entertaining fights and has a good engine on him. A lot depends on who is in the division when he steps up- if the likes of GGG have gone then who knows.

 

He wasn't great tonight but I feel he is boxing too often.

I think you ar being harsh - on Blackwell and Arnfield too. Nick was really only getting caught to any extent by the jab and the right uppercut.His opponent was well over 6 feet tall so the jab problem is understandable. He can correct the uppercut problem with training. Lots of guys wouldnt have survived in there -Arnfield could really take a punch.

Remember too that Nick is still learning - he had zero amateur career. I wouldnt rule Nick out of making an impact at world level at all - by no means.

 

He's carrying the good ship Mick Hennessy at the moment singlehandedly- you also have to remember he's only 25.

 

Good point about taking too many shots, if Arnfield had any power them uppercuts would have had Blackwell in big trouble.

Nick isnt troubled by punches though - he has a granite chin. He doesnt mark up either which is another big plus.
I think he would take fewer shots if he knew he was going in with a big puncher. He tends to box with impunity against opponents he knows cant hurt him.
I think he can yet raise his game against higher level guys with more at stake.
I do see him troubing most opponents out there.

 

Nick beats Spike for me. Spike has that power thing going for him but Nick is just a better all-round boxer IMO. Very under-rated IMO. Also he is improving all the time. Nick beats em all at domestic level I feel Andy Lee, CEJ etc etc.

(Plus I feel he would defend a lot more tightly against a puncher like Spike....who he knows going in can hurt him.)

 

In agreement, but I think we are on the same page having had a similar discussion before/after Ryder fight. A bout he hasn't had any credit for. I think Andy Lee is absolutely made for Nick. OK Lee can bang and could get Nick out of there. But Lee is fragile and Nick would break him. Blackwell is the fittest boxer in the UK and his chin is top notch. The BJS loss is irrelevant imo because Nick was so green and even then it was a close bout. The Murray loss not even worth mentioning.

He needs to tighten up his defence and take a break though.

What do you mean by strength? He is a big middleweight, he was talking about moving up to super middleweight but changed his diet and helped him make the 160 easier
