How far does Ron Lyle go in today's era

Not very well imho. I'm beginning to subscribe to the view that Lyle may be somewhat overrated these days.

 

Think he’s top 5. Better then Ruiz and Wilder and Whyte but not so sure about AJ Fury and Usyk

 

Operating as one of the Ring's Top-5 contenders, for seven years running, in the '70s heavyweight scene, is seriously top-flight.

Lyle is an extremely strong competitor in any era and he'd be holding a title in today's era. I'd bet on that one.

 

Concur with the concensus here ... Only Fury beats him ... AJ and Wilder aren't going to have much luck

 

He would do better then Wilder, probably.

 

Lyle in my opinion wasn't overrated. He was a decent hard hitter and a genuine tough guy. He'd be a solid contender in this era, and Fury, Wilder and AJ would've gone the distance with him.

 

The only one he probably losses too is Fury.
He'd over power one dimensional overrated Wilder
and the shaky body builder Joshua.

In his prime he was shut out by an unrated fighter and beat all of ONE atop ten fighters who he needed to get off the floor and be saved by the bell to do so, but if he’s around today he beats Joshua, Fury, Wilder, and Usyk. Makes sense.

 

Yeah, I'd have to look again at his Ring rated victims, but my impression of Lyle was an OK, basic fighter without many wins over other contenders. Solid power, solid durability, fair size for the era, and OK fundamentals, but nothing stood out about the guy.

I'm not so sure Fury wins, who has he beaten? Likely one of the champions today.

 

My memory of Lyle is that he was somewhat limited and quite predictable. I'd place him below the Hunter-Whyte level. It's not unlikely he sneaks into the top ten, but he'd generally find himself just outside.
