I'm asking this because I always thought to just do it a little bit like Mosely in this video but Cotto seem to place his chin much closer to his chest. Do you think it would be better defensively? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OicInSFASw&feature=related
Depends on the distance in my case. On the outside I keep it up a bit more, when inside I try to keep it as low as I can so my left shoulder blocks the left side of my head as much as possible.
Do what you feel comfortable with as long as it isnt ridiculous ie lifting ya chin up as ya punch. It varies amongst pros how high/low they hold their chin like you say mosley holds his chin a bit high as does floyd, whereas cotto holds his chin low as does hopkins.
would be hard to say anything more constructive than i have already said unless i could see what ya doing.what does ya coach say
I don't really have a coach. I'm figuring it out by using training manuals, sparring, and watching great fighters using youtube and then comparing them to myself. I know this isn't the best way but there are no gyms close by and I've been sparring with guys that are able to keep a level head while sparring with the emphasis on learning
that aint good a coach is so important when your starting out, as you gain more experience you are left more to your own devices and they will be more a critic ie ironing out flaws in ya game wtc but at the early stages you need someone to teach you.you really need to be taught the basics and without the basics installed you will struggle. But this also depends on what you want from the game.sorry if this is really harsh but its my honest opinion.
