It's all about timing and the timing for Frankie at 147 aint right now, he needs a bit longer, there is no rush and no need for uneccesary miles on the clock, he is been brought along in a great camp and will be guided well by his promoter...:yep

He will do his learning at 140 and his earning at 147...:deal

I have to agree with what Rob is saying. If you look at 147 internationally there are enormous guys knocking about at the weight who could easily be LMW's. I just have visions of Frankie getting in the ring with one and it looking like Mitchell v Kats the size difference was just so obvious and Kats isnt even the biggest lightweight Guerrero made him look like a dwarf.

Im not saying because they are bigger they will beat him because Frankie is 10x more skilled than Mitchell but there is no reason to give away such advantages if you can make 140

I agree with all of this.

I hear Beestons argument to develop at 147 until he's fully grown into the weight. I also think he'd look great at 140 squaring off with the best around in a year or so.

Maybe ply his trade at 147 and drop down for a big fight if it emerges at 140???

I still see Daws and Theopane as good fights for Gavin. But no reason he couldn't fight Purdy, 'Magic' or Watson and see how he fares. His awesome skillset will see him through against most at the weight, but I wouldn't necessarily want to see him progress through to 'Elite' level at the weight. Undersized and top-notch operators will wlk through him IMO.

As I say, try and fight some significant oppo' at 140 first.

Gavin would school 'Magic' something stupid.

You would see a major difference in skill levels if they ever met/meet.

    This is my point.

I don't see the point in hanging around waiting at 140 if an opening arises at 147. There's no rule that says you have to weigh in at 147 after all.

He can always weigh in at 142/143 as he typically does. It's not significant, and that way if something arises at that weight he can always lose it pretty easily.

He won't be a puncher at any weight, but neither were Whitaker or Benitez.... they didn't fare so badly did they?

I'd actually do the opposite to what No Mas put so brilliantly:

Do his learning at 147, and his earning at 140 :good

For now at least, until, as unified 140lb King he fights Pac at 147 off the back of a 20-fight winning streak, bamboozling the old warrior who gets pulled out by Dr. Roach ;-)

How would Gavin fare @ 147 on the Domestic, Euro & World scene then?

I would favour him against Lee Purdy and Watson and all of the opponents Hatton faced whilst he was Euro champ so he could probably be fine at Euro level with similar guidance.

It when he tries to take on top 20 welters that he runs into problems imo

What decently named welters on the world level do you think he would beat then?

Nah I dont think so, He's has yet to be tested and we are yet to see how he responds.

Malignaggi although not a puncher is extremely fit can take a punch and is quick and way more experienced.

Not a fight I'd recommend Gavin taking too soon.
