    RIP DARREN SUTHERLAND RIP

I know he was a tremandous prospect and was deffinetly one for the future, But....

How far would Darren Sutherland went in the professional game?
Would he have beaten DeGale, Jeffries, Groves or any of the top contenders at his or round his weight in britain ?

He certainly would have competed with those guys. Its a shame because I was hoping for another Benn-Eubank-Watson-Collins era. I think he had the talent to be a world champ for sure. Its tough to say after only four pro fights though.

You'll probably find people are likely to say Sutherland beats them all now.

I think DeGale would have beat him to be honest, always did. He was a tremendous prospect though, such a shame.

As long as he had some intangiables like chin, heart, stamina then he would have been a world champion. What level of a world champ, I don't know. He'd win a top 4 belt but whether he defended it once, unified etc I don't know. That elite level is very hard to gauge because we don't know the extent of a fighters intangiables.

He would have been top of the class and I am not just saying that because of the tragic events that have occurred. I have been saying that since the Olympics, every now and then you find a boxer you want to follow and for me Sutherland was the one out the Olympians who turned pro. Such a shame things turned out the way they did.

He had the beating of DeGale in the pro ranks and I doubt any of the others could cope with his power either.

No-one can say for sure. He looked good, he was a top prospect, but no-one genuinely knows what he could've achieved and we'll never find out either. We'll never know how he could've progressed in the pro ranks, what he would've improved on, what he wouldn't needed to improve on, how he performed in front of a packed crowd against a champion, how...

All those things lost. RIP Darren.

Theres just no way off knowing. Far too many 'ifs' and 'buts', its probably safe to say given his amatuer pedigree that he would have at least got to Euro/ fringe world class but anything else after that, or how he would have fared against Groves, Jeffries and DeGale in the pro ranks, is guesswork and opinions are likely to be coloured/ affected by the recent tragic events IMHO.

Ive always thought he would beat DeGale TBH. I think DeGale is still boxing amateur style but with Sutherland you could tell he settled strate away to the pro style.

He seemed to have a touch of class about his work and reminded me a little of Miguel Cotto. He was very, very good but his last performance wasn't a great one. I think he had the capability to one day be a world champion but its impossible to be sure. All I know is that he will always be a discussion subject when it comes to fighters who could have, should have or would have.
