I have Roy beating the likes of Patterson and Quarry. Not sure how Ali would deal with another fast heavyweight
Not too badly. He'd be the only fighter of that era who understood the value of the widely available PEDs the general public had access to back then. His opponents would all be smaller than what he would have faced in his own era's HWT division as well, and he could probably wait out Foreman's title reign to pick off later 70s Ali. This would presumably be a young Roy who began bulking up, so he probably has enough time to wait. What gives me pause is the number of dangerous punchers, though. Foreman and Shavers especially. Putting him up against as many guys like Young, Ellis, and maybe Bugner as possible might be the best bet. Might be interesting to try to figure out what a career path would look like for the guy, given who was ranked when.
I think he would be a bit of an enigma, a guy who can pull off an upset and generally make guys look bad, but also definitely on the chinny side. He would have some quality wins against the less powerful guys, but against the power hitters like Foreman, Shavers, and Lyle, I think once they catch him he's gone. I could definitely see him beating guys like Ellis, Young, even big but not too poweful guys like Bugner.
Have to agree here. Patterson is all wrong for Roy. Can see Roy sneaking in some good wins here and there but not against Patterson
Sure, Roy does fine as long as he fights anyone equal to or less than the “quality” Ruiz brought to the table. Oh, and also as long he gets a ref that diligently ensures the opponent doesn’t get up too close and personal for some inside work or dare rough Roy up in the clinches. So good luck with all that. Roy’s chin tinkled even against Ruiz before the Quiet Man become impossibly quiet. I don’t believe Roy has to only fear reputable HW bangers like Frazier, Foreman, Shavers etc. Their power presents as absolute overkill to secure a KO against Mr Jones. Any 70s HW with a decent punch has sufficient power to easily put Jones out. I wouldn’t be looking past fighters like Quarry, Ellis and Patterson too hastily either. In fact, even if that’s where Roy feels most comfortable to initiate his foray, I see it ending before it begins. Good night sweet prince……..
He goes nowhere, Patterson kos him and I wouldn't bet on Roy against Quarry . Roy has gotten a lot of milage out of his win over that stiff Ruiz.
