Been hearing a lot about Mayweather's adaptability recently. Below is an extremely good example.

Here's an old video in my youtube favorites list.

I never knew he made new plays THAT quickly until I found this video awhile back.

THIS HAPPENED IN A ROUND WHEN JUDAH WAS STILL DOING "GOOD" AND "TROUBLING" FLOYD.

Maybe he is a bit better than some of this generation due to his dad and Rogers influence. Because in their era there weren't always tapes of opponents so I think maybe they instilled in him that he had to rely somewhat on his own instints!

But nothing like he would have us believe!

He adapted well in the Judah fight, but that was mroe to do with Judah being a ***** and not letting his hands go. Till the final bell, Judahs left hand was catching Mayweather, but he almost refused to throw it more than once per round.

Against someone with the skills to give him trubble? 1-5 rounds. Depending on how good they are and what style they box with.

I really, really like the obsevation in the video.

Anyway, yeah, Maywather has the speed, saw the opening, took it. He'd be an idiot if he did what got him hit, and as the guy says "the body is wide open". It's not an adjustment so much as a reaction - in a way, his hypersensitivity is what makes him rather vulnerable to fenits.

Against Oscar, Mayweather didn't adapt to the jab, IMO, though I'm up for being corrected on that one.

    Floyd did not.

Oscar was chastised for days after that fight for not continously throwing that jab.

    Incredibly irritating narrator.

That aside, I think he actually missed something himself -- I don't think that first counter hook even landed by Judah, after pause/playing it frame by frame. It looked like Floyd sensed it coming and ducked, dodging it by a hair, too quick to catch in normal vision.

Floyd didn't do any adapting in the Judah fight...

He stuck to the same gameplan the entire fight. Judah got careless, got caught, and decided to be a *****!

well according to studies the man can adapt quickly and to any style, he cant adapt fast enough to DOMINATE a fight or even stop an opponent. All without watching footage of his opponents and frankly,, I think he will retire undefeated or lose when he is far far past his prime.

Floyd adapts well against most fighters. Alot of that has to do with his defense first mentality and the level of competition he's faced. But truth be told he didn't adapt well against Castillo. It took him another go at him to look good against him.

And for the record there's nothing wrong with looking bad against a particular fighter or style. If you're in with enough good competition you're going to look bad. That's one of the reasons so many have a hard time truly buying into Floyd as the ATG fighter he portrays himself to be. He's never had that bad stylistic matchup with an elite fighter to truly test himself against a certified Beast! His matchup with Shane is by far his biggest test and it's coming as Shane approaches 39 years old!

If he didn't plan it at all why did he throw the straight right hand the second time around instead?:huh

    Disagree.

He began orthodox in the fight, then around the 4th or 5th round, he begins stalking Judah with the high guard up. Countering with straight rights and hooks to the body. That was an adjustment made by him. Judah's already a mental midget so he wouldn't have been able to do anything about it.
