Were not that far from the 10 year anniversary of the fight. Got damn were getting old. That night was pandemonium here on ESB. A lot of us trying to make sense of what we just saw.

He was past his prime, the first fight showed that man. it's still a good victory for Tarver though. Punching with Jones contributed to the KO, but it wasn't the deciding factor. The fact that Jones throw a wide left hook from too far out was. All tarver did was sort of walk in with the punch, and his punch was going to land before jones being that he stepped in and through a straighter punch. Jones was way out of position. Jones was showing that his range/distance sense had diminished quite a bit.

That was the last RJJ fight I watched. Too painful. I'd rather remember him at his prime, like when he turned pro in 92 completely dominating his opponent for the first 2 rounds til the 3rd TKO. Or how he scored a complete 4th round shutout of Vinnie Pazienza in 95-if I'm not wrong one of only a handful ever in compubox history.
I only heard of his string of losses ever since, and how he embarrassed himself against Calzaghe with pain and disbelief. Is it financial,is he broke,is cumulative brain damage affecting his thinking, isn't there anyone in his corner who can lead an intervention-family,friends??
    Just,SIGHHHHH.

Great shot by Antonio, but he was physically and mentally, at a hundred per cent, where as Roy wasn't.

One was a 35 year old fighter, that had turned pro in 89, at 20, who'd had 50 fights, and who'd recently come back to 175, from a solid 200 pounds as a heavy.

The other was a 35 year old fighter, who'd turned pro in 96, at 28, who'd only had about 23 fights.

Regarding Tarver's famous "Have you got any excuses tonight Roy?"

What happened after Hopkins had embarrassed him in 2006?

He'd bulked up to heavy, to play Mason Dixon in Rocky Balboa, and then he had to lose the excess weight to get back to 175. After he'd had his ass kicked by Bernard, guess what he said?

It was the weight he had to lose! Ha! Also, he claimed that he'd been poisoned!

The guy was a good fighter, but he got Roy at the right time. His style would have always caused Roy problems, but I think a pre Ruiz version of Roy, definitely would of beaten him. If Roy could beat him with nothing left in the tank after 9 rounds, then at his best, in top shape, I don't think Antonio could have beaten him.

    Regards, Loudon.

Tarver's style doesn't cause Roy any real problems. Tarver is too slow and too inactive. He had a Roy that was dead at the weight in the first fight and let him slip away.

I had Tarver winning the 1st fight. I've only seen the 1st fight once, the day it happened so I may score it differently if I watch it again.

I just remember RJJ not being himself.
