How good a boxing analyst are you, out of 10?

Well, he's only 19 years old, 20 now I believe and he was still living at home while training and working some **** job. He had no educational oppurtunities I believe and was in a bad family life situation, before he left he told me he was thrown out of his house and was having to rough it but to keep his contacts because he was still boxing and sorting things out.

Haven't seen him post since Jones-Trinidad, where he was looking for a link.

His favourite fighter of all time is Roy Jones Jr by the way, claims that Jones was the best he's ever seen on film H2H.

Initially he thought low of Calzaghe, having not seen enough, after Kessler he proclaimed that prime to prime he'd beat Hopkins 'in a close one', Hopkins is his 2nd favourite of all time, he also called Calzaghe-Hopkins absolutely correct in an 8-4 sense for Joe now and Hopkins fading and killing the match.

 

To be fair, he's not the most knowledgable about boxing as a sport, he's (according to you, and quite possibly, given his participation and understanding of technique, and supposed picking record) the most learned analyst of styles. Many have greater knowledge of the history of the game, etc. His strengths rank in fight picking and analytical skills, just as Cross_Trainer's ranked in other categories, as well as other posters. I consider Raging B(_)LL to be the most knowledgable poster on this site, with some of the best analytical posting ability, even though he makes unorthodox calls on certain fights and fighters. You can rest assured he's seen more than enough to make his own assumptions rather than go with the consensus.

 

Doesn't sound good. I wish the kid all the best. Hopefully he can have success in the pro ranks and make a decent living for himself. If not, let's hope he finds a good job to fall back on.

Have to disagree with him there. My personal bias is kicking in, but for me, it's Roberto Duran and Pernell Whitaker at 135.

You know what, prime for prime it would be a close fight. People bring up Hopkins being faded, which he clearly was, but Calzaghe, to a lesser extent, was as well. It would be Hopkins taking rounds off of clean punching and accurate counter punches and Calzaghe taking rounds off pressure and workrate. My guess is that Hopkins would win a nip and tuck affair.

 

I assure you that you are incorrect here, if he ever showed up, I would ask him to teach us all something new about analysing.

I hope it's going at least decent for him, his education I think was not even completion of high school, for one reason or another and an oddity because he was extremely intelligent in general, not just in boxing.

But I have a feeling he's in a dark place right now, unfortunately. None the less, Magnum had a survivor mentality, he'll make it work.

To be fair, he claimed both would have smoked Floyd at 135.

His picks were Duran mid rounds stoppage and Whitaker by a virtual shutout. No bias either, he was a big fan of Floyd's actually, enjoyed watching most top fighters, big fan of Mijares too, he introduced me to Mijares and had him picked for the Arce match by 'virtual shutout', it was a nice surprise.

I'm not sure, Joe did come in with a **** gameplan thinking Hopkins aged would be a cream puff compared to the stiff competition of Kessler and aside from clinching and the occassional counter, Hopkins was nullified completely after the 4th and against Wright and Tarver, he was particularly stronger in the late rounds, here he was worn down badly due to Calzaghe's work.

It'd definitely be a better fight, I still pick Calzaghe. Some food for thought.

Yes, I just refuse to agknowledge that anybody could possibly be more knowledgable about boxing than that guy. You're talking to a wall here SP.

 

So you think he knows more about Barbados Joe Walcott, Young Griffo, Joe Gans, and guys of the early 20th century than someone like Cross_Trainer and Janitor? I guarantee you he hasn't seen HALF the footage of fighters of all weight classes, all eras like Raging B(_)LL has. I'll go the opposite route as a matter of fact, and guarantee you that Magnum isn't as overall knowledgable, even while he may be better at picking fights between modern fighters.

His specialty is among modern fighters, how can you assume he knows more about the in and outs of the old timers careers than those guys, when he basically dismisses the fighters of those era's credibility?

 

he sounds like an idiot savant. if i had access to that type of predicting abilities i would be living in vegas betting on every fight and not trying to make a buck by getting my ass beat. you must lack ambition if you never used his amazing talent for personal gain.
myself, i would say i rate about a 7 when it comes to fighters i follow which are very few compared to some of you boxing obsessed fans. im not hating just wish i had that kind of time.

 

I'm not talking about boxing history, I am talking about boxing analysis, boxing history has nothing to do with this thread at all.

This entire thread is about boxing analysis, meaning knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport of boxing, which he is clearly the msot knowledgeable about, possibly even the most knowledgable of all time.

I really don't see how anybody could know anymore than him. If he can't be a fighter, he ought to become a trainer, he'd be as top as it could get after some experience.

Well he comes from a poor family, worked a minimum wage job and just got by enough to train, as he's a fighter in the ams and planned on turning pro.

If he had money to spare, he'd have been betting and would sitting on a pile, hell, he may have done that.

What makes you think he won me no money? Before he left I was even going to send him a percentage for some of the help he assisted me with in 2007.

 

with that type of ability you could turn $100 into $100000 in 6 months. if he cant come up with $100 then he really is down on his luck.

 

You'll still get a 'winner' pick wrong here and there, it's not that easy, for example I highligted where he called a fight 100% correctly but got the winner wrong.

Robberies **** you too, I've lost money on a robbery.

Had he still been around, I'd have collaborated with him on the 15000$ betting account I had going into this year, which is now heavily reduced to my own employment problems. He'd likely have saved me some money on some bad picks this year also and I'd have compensated him for it.

Before he left, he was wrecked in terms of living situation.
