How good a boxing analyst are you, out of 10?

I give myself a 5. Too many old fights/ fighters I still need to watch.

Why compare a PHD in boxing history to a PHD in boxing analysis, apples and oranges.

 

Cross-Trainer was not a fight analyst, that is something that is generally misunderstood about him. He was an amazingly knowledgable and logical poster on various subjects though, but he rarely, if ever, made in depth predictions on fights, just let his opinions known on eras and logical views of everything.

He did make picks here and there, most always incorrect also, this was not his game. He also was not keen on really analysing a fighters level, would rank them in an official rankings sense. For example, because of this style of ranking, he rated Kelly Pavlik and Jermain Taylor as superior fighters to that of Joe Calzaghe. Rated Jean Marc Mormeck as superior to that of Juan Manuel Marquez P4P, such is not logical, none of us would do that.

But what he was incredible with was the history of anything involving combat sport. A living encyclopedia of boxing history, especially the 1890's to 1920's and then an even more impressive encyclopedia of martial arts in general.

His knowledge of martial arts was astounding, I enjoyed the talks I had with him on styles.

 

7/10 on my scale on Amsterdam's scale a 2/10 or mabye a 1/10.

In fact, 10/10 doesn't even do Magnum justice. You can't give him a rating, it's not fair to say 'well hey, I'm a 5 and this guy is a 7' and then have Magnum only 5 or 3 numbers higher.

More accurate would be something like a special "00" for Magnum, you reach this rating when you become a flawless master.

I've been accused of being Zakman, China hand Joe, Decebal, Blocky and now Magnum....

And no disrespect to anybody here, Sweet Pea and you are fine boxing analysts, better than I am in my opinion, it's just that you're both ****ing with something that's not yet been proven to be of this world guys....

 

Meh, 4 out of 10. I usually get better than 50% of predictions right but there are many that know far more about in depth analysis than I. I still have much to learn but that will come with years and studying the game. :yep
