I'm just about to order a mixed dvd of fights, and I am tempted to stick Hagler-Mugabi on there as I have read it was a great fight, but I thought I'd ask the ESB as I've never seen it and would rather hear from guys who've seen it before I select it, as I can only select a limited number of fights. So what's the verdict? GREAT fight, GOOD fight, OK fight, or POOR fight?
Its not a bad fight, Its not a good fight , its not an amazing fight.. It is a fabulous fight.. It epitomizes what Marvin was all about... Mugabi was the toughest man around at Middleweight and both men promised an all out struggle. They also provided it.. Its a must have fight if you are a fan of Marvins...
To tell you the truth, it's been a long time since i watched that fight. But I can tell you this, I remember being very excited throughout! It went back and forth, until Marvellous finally put away the beast!!! But wait till you hear from someone who remembers it better, as I am a big Hagler fan and I could be subjective
I order from boxingjunkies...it's alright but it's cheap so if you're cash strapped. I'd recommend them.
I just watched part of it on youtube last week. Marvin's one of a kind, an atg. And Mugabi was no slouch. Definitely worth acquiring for the library.
No it was a classic; The sports world was watching after the Hearns battle and this fight delivered. As an aside;Anybody else remember it being postponed from November to March.I remember being bitterly disappointed at the time.
id say it was a great fight it had a bit of everything, knockdwns, low blows ,fantastic pace ,clean punches, great start with mugabi doing brilliant a beating marvin to the punch a lot ,great middle where they went toe to toe in a firefight and great end where marvin turned it round and took him out when the fight was about even I also think this fight took a lot out of mugabi and his ability to take punishment sort of like peter vs klitscho what do u think
IMO is a great fight. I liked the whole thing..... If memory serves, I think they made it look like the Romans time. Spoiler, Watch round 6 a few times :yep
Great fight in my opinion, especially round six, which was voted round of the year for 1986. Once again, Hagler showed an absolute granite chin, great resolve & desire to come back when he clearly was getting lumps beaten out of him. Mugabi was no slouch & Hagler said it was the hardest he had ever been hit by an opponent. Mugabi was never the same after this fight.
I saw it a few months ago on Versus. Before watching it, i thought it was an ATG brawl based on what i read about it but i think it's somewhat overrated. A good fight but not incredible by any means. The last few rounds were brutal though. A war of attrition.
It was a very good fight. Hagler was slowing down and easier to hit by 1986, but you still get to see a lot of his qualities that enabled him to win this one. His ability to take shots upstairs and downstairs, his brilliant jab, his in-fighting, will, body attack, etc..
