GREAT fight! Instant classic. Hagler tried to box early - but the durable Muagbi kept pulling him into exchanges. The sixth round was as fierce of a toe-to-toe battle as you're ever likely to see. Hagler indulged in his love of battle a bit too much - resulting in taking some punishment from the fierce puncher. By the eleventh - Hagler had worn the man down with a constant array of punches and battered him into the ropes for the stoppage - effectively ruining what had been a promising career of the previously unbeaten Mugabi. He was never as fierce again. Hagler may have come out of the battle a little worse for wear as well - as he lost his next - and last fight to the legendary Sugar Ray Leonard. That;s the way I see it anyhow. :good
Just watched it from a set of Hagler fights I bought on BoxingGalore.com. This was a BRUTAL fight. Too bad they didnt have puchstats back then. The amount and % of power punches both men landed was incredible. Mugabe was a bad mf at the time but Hagler showed and proved that he is the baddest mf of all time. Unfortunately this brawl/slugfest took a lot out of Hagler... He did not have to box or move that much at all, threw wider straight lefts, looked slow when he was boxing orthadox and even talked of retiring after the bout. Making this the perfect opportunity for Sugar Ray to start his mind games and take advantage of this weakend Hagler. I'll be watching that fight next for the 1st time in many yrs. ...yep Hagler did beat Sugar 7-5. The announcers were all on sugars jock!!
I've got this on a dvd I ordered like a month back and I'm embarrassed to say I still have not got round to watching it. Your responses have made me want to watch it now. and seem what I'm missing out. That's it I'm off to watch the fight!!!
its definitely worth getting its one of the better hagler fights (in the sense that its entertaining and not one-sided) i mean its way better than seeing hagler pound obelmejias or tony sibson and i thought those fights werent bad either
