looking back on mike tyson's relationship with kevin rooney, i can't help but think rooney was a magnificent trainer and that tyson lost something the day they split as a team. what did you make of kevin rooneys contribution to mike tyson's career?

One of the main reasons for his success in the ring. Without Rooney, there was no Tyson.

rooney was a great trainer FOR tyson....his 'style' may not have worked for other fighters.....in tyson, he had a perfect tool to perfect the style that he chose to carry on from d'amato...

do you think that rooney was a good man manager of tyson, good at keeping tysons wild streak under control?

if tyson hadn't split with rooney do you feel that tyson would have gone on to achieve more than he did?

Tyson and Rooney were the perfect fit for each other. That's all it is. I don't know how good Rooney would be with others, he was just absolutely perfect for Tyson.

It's not a matter of Rooney being so great, it was a matter of chemistry.

Tyson and Rooney had it and Tyson never should've dumped Rooney as a trainer.

has anyone ever questioned Mike today as to whether or not he regretted firing Rooney?

I think if he says he did not, He is a liar.

Rooney had a big gambling and alcohol problem didn't he?

I seem to remember Tyson after the Spinks fight saying that Rooney had told him before the opening bell that he'd bet the entire purse on a 1st round KO....that's man-management right there!!

Yep, you can get the entire footage on YouTube, and it's funny listening to the post-fight interview where Tyson said he went back to the corner and asked for his money and Rooney said he was only joking. It's good to see the good-humoured guy he could be. Back when it was all about the boxing and teamwork with Rooney, and Mike actually looked like he WANTED to be in the ring.

I think Tysons saving all that **** for his autobiography. That's one thing I can't understand about the guy, he's skint yet could clear all his money worries if he just wrote his life story - it's so intense he could write it in 4-5 volumes and every one would earn him a fortune, and then he could sell the rights to a filim and really cash in. Why doesn't he just do it :huh

Kevin Rooney was about a s ****ed-up as Mike Tyson. They had a good relationship, while it lasted. It was Cus D'Amato's personality that held everything together. After he died it was just a question of time before everything blew apart.
