You need to slow down. I'm saying Kovalev is a tier below Ward who's slightly below guys like Jones and Spinks.
Yeah somewhere around that, Geez Kovalev looked tired by the sixth round and Ward landed fewer than 10 punches most rounds!! so it wasn't an accumulation of shots. They are the best Lightheavies today but I don't think much of them. Ward has 16 ko's in 32 fights, Qawi would walk through him by KO around 12 or 13 rounds. In the 70's and eighties they might crack the top 5. 90'S? Tarver and Jones would kill'em. I'd take B Hop over Ward at 175
That's a very simplistic way of viewing things. I think a career super middle weight with injury issues fought a big light heavy in the first fight who had all the momentum. The super middle got knocked down, adjusted and won a close fight IMO. In the rematch the fight picked up where the first left off, I don't think it was a close a fight. I could see that Ward was having his way and that Kovalev couldn't land anything, I predicted the stoppage from the fifth round due to the complete domination. I could see Kovalev mentally tapping out and looking physically fatigued. The good fighter looked one dimensional, well and truly beaten. If you couldn't see what was happening in the fight and you think a low blow determined the outcome, you really need to learn boxing. They are not equals or even close to it, don't insult Ward like that. It's 2-0 with the second fight being complete domination.
Both good but Ward is Slicker, More composed, Focused, better stamina and overall has better ring generalship.
Kov was giving Ward all he could handle in this fight. Take a look at Wards face after the 6th. That was a fight. The 7th round low blow didn't help. Neither did the 8th round.
If he thinks the 2nd fight was a "Complete domination" Its not worth arguing with him because he clearly dosen't score for the opposition of his favourite fighters.
I could see how the fight was going, I don't have a problem with anyone who had Kovalev ahead. However I'd question how much stock they put in a Kovalev jab (the only punch he landed). I'm talking about the flow of the fight, who was fighting their fight and dictating the contest. That was Ward from start to finish (other than the sixth round). If you couldn't see that Ward was doing what he wanted and that he was dominating.. I'm probably talking to someone who isn't capable of seeing what I was seeing.
Very good. Both of them. But not the top level when comparing them with other fighters over time or other fighters around the weight class. I would pick GGG and Calzaghe, for example, to beat them both. I know Darnell Boone (fought Ward, fought Kovalev, sparred with GGG) has said he believes GGG beats both Ward and Kovalev. For the current moment, however, Ward/Kovalev are pretty much at the top of the heap. At least at LHW.
Yeah, its not like a boxer to only use a jab to win a fight is it. Only the most successful HW in the past 20 years did it and it seemed to work for him. Kovalev was landing his jab on Ward, I don't care about the flow of the fight.Or how you think Ward was dictating the flow of the fight. Those jabs were landing, and they were landing much harder in the first fight. Which you probably scored a domination victory to Ward as well.
We have to make a judgement call on the effectiveness of the jab and weigh it up against the work of the opposition. What I perceived in this fight is that Kovalev's jab was far less effective compared to last time and didn't have any outcome on how Ward approached him. Ward was landing jabs of his own and they seemed to have more of an impact on Kovalev than vice versa. Plus Ward was landing power punches (Kovalev was hitting air) and dictating the fight. I had the first fight for Ward 7-5, giving him a one point victory. So no, I scored that one is I saw it, like any other fight. Ward dominated Kovalev in the second fight, I expected a wider Ward victory as he obviously figured Kovalev out in the first fight but I didn't expect it to be as one sided as it was.
They're both very good fighters. If people can't appreciate the skills that these two have then they need to follow another sport.
Kovalev beat SOB with a neutral referee, judges, boxing commission, etc., SOB should not be allowed to cheat, boxing has rules.......................if Kovalev had hit SOB to the testicles he would have been disqualified. Face it, boxing is crooked in Vegas and some other places, needs to be an investigation...........
