Would you rank him in the top 50? or 100? (of all time) Best wins? If he retires today, what will his legacy be? How will he be remembered?
Hell no he doesn’t get into the top 100. I like Khan despite him having a certain arrogance to him, it’s probably more self belief than arrogance but their you go. Imagine if he’d stayed in the amateurs to refine his skills for 2/3 more years or trained with Virgil Hunter a lot earlier. He definitely achieved a fair amount, sadly his tendency to leave his chin wide open and get hit with clean punches was his downfall. He’s what a 2 weight world champion? Has nice wins over Kotelnik, Maidana, Algieri, Alexander, Malignaggi and probably deserved the decision over Peterson. A couple of wins against fighters past their best like Judah, Collazo and Barrera Despite this decent resume, I think personally think he underachieved with the natural ability he had.
I feel like if Khans career was made into a movie it would be decent, like a solid 7/10 on IMDb As a fighter not so good overall technically, but that elite hand speed, and propensity for a dustup - combined with being a liability to get KO’d at any moment made for compulsive viewing.
He’s good. A former unified world champion with a lot of good names on his resume and always fought the best. Probably could have been better if he didn’t abandon his defence and look to trade. Didn’t have the chin for it but kept doing it anyway because he gets too comfortable during fights and adrenaline kicks in making him believe for a minute he’s unstoppable...and then he gets clipped on the chin and he’s on Que*r Street.
Khan gets huge points credited for being game enough to call out and fight anybody, no one can take that away from him! He is absolutely brilliant when it comes to dazzling hand speed and the accurate delivery of multiple punch combinations so amazingly fast that the crowd gasps! Unfortunately his chin is wired to the off button which is touch sensitive! If only?
Excellent fighter - World class in his prime Didn't learn from his defeats and in my opinion stuck with a trainer who wasn't right for him for too long Was in some good fights but while had all the speed in the world his chin wasn't much better than the lads at domestic level - i really think he should be looking at retiring soon he's been put over by nobodies of later and hurt badly in plenty of fights. He's got a couple of kids and only in his early 30's. More to life than boxing.
He doesn't belong anywhere near the topic Paulie M., Kotelnik A quick handed fighter that was not durable at the top level. He won't have much of a legacy.
To reach world level you have to be very good particularly in the lower weights but comparatively to others at that level he's pretty average.
