How good is Anthony Joshua in comparison to other British Boxers of the past?

As it stands right now, only Lennox lewis is above him in terms of ATG British HWs.

Of course his career isnt anywhere near the end, and if he ends up on a Roy Jones Jr Esque legacy trashing exercise for years past his prime, then his position will slip from there. But at the moment he is definitely number 2 ATG British HW, so long as he gets out at the right time and doesnt fight on too long.

 

If they never fought again, I'd have Fury #2 behind Lewis, and Joshua #3.
Fury beat Klitschko and deserved the decision against Wilder.

Joshua's best win is Fury's leftovers in Klitschko. His second best win is Povetkin or Parker, probably neither as good as Wilder in this year.
And Joshua's other "title fight" wins are an absolute joke.

 

I have Joshua as 2A and Fury as 2B. Joshua's resume to me a bit better. A match between the two could define mediocre times in a post-Klitschko world.

Haha you'd better watch yourself. Fury and Joshua are both defined by beating 39 and 41 years old from Wlad's era.

Take away a past their prime Wlad and Povetkin, and who exactly have Joshua or Wilder beaten? Exactly.

I don’t think it’s fair to judge him mid career. He’s still in his prime. Let’s see if he takes the big fights and how he gets on.

 

That has nothing to do with who Joshua or Wilder has beaten. The Wilder vs. Fury fight showed me three things.

1 ) Wilder can't box well at all
2 ) Fury can't punch.
3 ) Boxing has a real problem with the judges.

I would pick Usky to beat Wilder, and if he can avoid the bomb that Joshua landed on Povetkin, perhaps him on points too. Joshua was out boxed by smaller men in the amateurs, and has some trouble with the quick and skilled types because he doesn't; dominate a fight with his jab.

A 39 year old Povetkin was out boxing Joshua for a while and had his knees buckled. If Povetkin was 35 for Joshua, he probably beats him. Same for Wlad.
