Here he is against Cuban, Richard Abril, just 3 months prior to facing Amir Khan.

Unfortunately we only have film of the first 2 rounds.

Prescott won a SD in the end 97-92, 95-94, 94-95.

Does he look like the all conquering warrior Khan painted him out to be now we have the benefit of video exceeding 52 seconds? What is your analysis of him here?

Prescott should have taken advantage of his win over Khan asap. Why is he ****ing around? not even a scheduled fight.

I guess he can buy 150 acres of cocaine fields with that payday. It will be interesting to see him matched up against a durable operator that isn't too amazing. Maybe even David Diaz.

But as it is, how do you think he looks here?

Its clips like this which make you wonder how goodKhan really is and how safe has his match making been.

This is what I'm trying to look at. It's kinda hard to know if Khan was knocked out by a serious operator here. It's easy to assume that he wasn't since light hitters hurt him, or that he was because Prescott looked good for 52 seconds.

What do you think about him here?

Prescott looks really average here. He can hardly lay a glove on Abril.

Remember this was the first time Prescott faced an opponent with a winning record and not some bum back home in Colombia. Shows you how good (or not so good) Khan really is.

Puts the bull**** from the likes of Nicky Piper, who claim Prescott is world class and a future star/world champ, into perspective.

What do the Khan huggers have to say about this then?

I think thats a little harsh, but he does show some serious flaws and almost lives up to the Colombian stereotype.

I would give the first round to Prescott mostly based on a aggression and a couple of notable power punches. The startling thing is they don't quite seem to trouble Mr. Abril as much...

Second round the Cuban boxed clever. Prescott seemed unable to close distance effectively despite having long arms. He looks a bit slow and lacking footwork. His punches also start to get more and more round and lacking in technique. I gave it to the Cuban.

Shame there is no more footage.

Firstly what surprised me was both Prescott and Abril are 5'11 and fight at 135, because whilst we are accustomed to believing that Khan is a big 135lber these guys look way bigger.

Other than that i think Prescott looks okay, he was pressing like he did in the Khan fight, but again it is hard to compare when Khan didnt last long. What i did notice was Abril was able to make Prescott take a step back everynow and then whereas Khan didnt seem to be able to even when he landed.

I think Prescott looked good, a future world beater?... i dont know i wish he had fought since his last fight.

The jury is still out imo.

    maybe khans just that ****!!!

i think prescotts a pretty good fighter, richard abrill didnt really help matters running away, or boxing him from range.. thats the thing khan didn't do, he went toe to toe and tryed to fight up close.. if he'd have stayed at range, and tryed boxing him with speed.. he might have lasted a couple of rounds and showed his skills..

Presscott could offer any top 5 domestic fighter a decent fight.

    Note the commentator......

Abril took this fight on two day's notice.

Maybe Jeff or one of the other boxers could help here - I would imagine you would be hampered on such short notice, even if you have been in the gym.

Prescott most likely will have watched footage of the Limond and Gomez fights, knowing that his head movement is non-existent and is very vulnerable to fast counters and looping shots.

When jabbing his right hand may as well be in his pocket - each time he has been decked heavily it has been a cuffing left hook (or fast countering one).

Roach will most probably know that and be working on it constantly.

prescott isnt great, khan took some massive shots from a hard hitter nothing more nothing less, if khan had a chin he'd hammer prescott

Yes. Maybe Abril's brain is much bigger than Khan as he seemed to have the right gameplan.

But isn't that the point? You are supposed to box to your strength and to your opponents weakness. In doing so he showed us something else about Prescott. I'm not drawing any firm conclusions, its only a couple of rounds after all but it did go to a SD so I imagine its much of the same.

Prescott may have simply bought the ticket and won the lottery.

OK he has a 90% KO ratio, but even an average punching 135lb'er could knock Khan spark out - his chin is that bad.

It's pretty difficult to make a real judgement on Prescott looking at that snippet. He looks strong and I think that, as Teddy Atlas says, he obviously has a bit of a dig - you need to be able to tee off at least a bit to KO even Colombian taxi drivers. Abril looks pretty well schooled, more technically adept than Prescott but perhaps not as suited to the professional game.

In terms of assessing how good Prescott and, subsequent to that, Khan are from taht clip, it's pretty difficult. Styles make fights and Khan's almost arrogant come-forward style, developed due to a pishy matchmaking policy, saw him get sparked. I think we can assume that Khan doesn't have a great chin but he does have the skill to overcome that, at least to the level to challange for a world title, in my opinino. Prescott is difficult to read - he should fight someone on a decent level but according to some on here his promotional obligations are a bit complicated. Shame as he could be a gem.
