the opposite is true. 75% of this forum still thinks jcc fought nothing but cab drivers, after going to boxrec. canelo is one of the best 10 fighters you will see in the next 10 years, a study in fighter development. early in his career, i commented on how the level he had reached, would better be served by changing trainers, to finish him out. i underestimated the reynosos. in my mind, and i believe, in his teams also... the fights he took, were taken because they served a purpose in his progress. they were winnable and they were the next logical step in his upward trajectory. they took the power his name wields, and paved the road how they wanted it paved. a masterful job. canelo is not done, hes got some historic fights to make still. but he wont be appreciated fully till his knock down, drag out, come from behind gutsy win comes to pass. and it will.
I agree that he was managed perfectly, but in terms of skills he is what he is not cuz of Reynosos. I am pretty sure he developed his skills himself, cuz he is smart, dedicated and probably watched many old masters. Did you know that Pirog didnt have a trainer? He learned everything from VHS tapes, i am pretty sure Canelo did it too.
i agree that his best asset is his mind. he is a straight soldier about it. the mission comes first, your well being second. he puts the work in. but the reynosos have prepared him technically, refining him, eliminating drag. this is one thing nobody gives canelo credit for, he is a master of classic techniques that even trainers have forgotten. the way he rolls with punches, the use of his waist. these are not new, its just that floyd change lots of perceptions. all of a sudden, keeping distance meant you were better than bending at the waist. avoiding head punches altogether was better than rolling with a punch. there are so many nuances to canelos game that he gets little credit for, but at least he will have the results.
Who knows ?? Its taken blatant corruption in Vegas to get him where he is now. The kid can fight that is obvious but he's known for a long time that all he has to do is be standing at the final bell to guarantee he will not lose. In that knowledge he's held back, been over cautious against the top guys. Therefore he really lost to GGGx2. Lara & Trout. Add to those the schooling Mayweather gave him makes FIVE losses should be on his record. Could he have won without the "HELP"?? Who knows Obviously Oscar wasnt sure he could or he could have saved a lot of $$$$$$. LOL For this reason & the popping dirty for Ped's there is no way he can be considered P4P top 10 today. Really its a shame I think he had the talent to go it alone but lacked the necessaries
