i never rated him, and i'm still skeptical about him. issues like coming in over a 170lbs into fights, not providing urine samples before and after fights and refusing to have gloves weighed prior to a weigh in casts enormous doubts over his natural abilities, just a year ago he couldn't even get rid of zbik who sturm stopped recently after hitting him repeatedly with body shots. If martinez beats him decisively it wont have a massive impact on his career, he'll go back to fighting guys like rubio, manfredo, zbik etc
I have no doubts he's not a clean fighter to much has gone on. He's the son of a legend. He lives by different rules sadly.. He's improved physically, he still has technical flaws. You could see he sensed right away that Lee was inferior physically. I mean he was falling out of position, had no jab and squared up yet still got the job done. Against Martinez he's going to have to rely on more then sheer strength. He ate a lot of punches to the head. Lee doesn't present the angles Martinez does. Fascinating fight, I think he's a solid champion. A well matched one. I hope his reign comes to a end though.
hes better then i expected probably a top 5 fighter at 160. i thought lee was going to outclass him, seems like i was very wrong.
Didn't rate him but it was clear he improved under Roach, however I still didn't see much talent. What he does have are intangiables. A seemingly strong mind with a will to win, all the while being very durable and almost impervious to pain
I dont rate him to be honest. I thought he lost in his title try and hes always 15/20 lbs heavier then his opponents-has failed not once but TWICE to give urine tests before bouts.
He gets by on his physical advantages which are very probably bought about by cheating. Also by his lineage rather than merit. He's not very good for boxing So, not a fan.
Not on the same level as Sergio or Froch despite what some will have you believe. Jesus this guy beat Andy Lee FFS. Martinez has KO'd two guys at worst equal to Lee in Macklin and Barker yet gets slagged for it :conf
Better than what most people would give him credit for. He did surprise me a little with the Lee performance. But His refusal to give urine tests before and after the fight -- if true? -- is just outright wrong, and he'd probably be the first boxer I properly suspect of cheating and would put money on it. Martinez will beat him up.
