I have only ever watched his fight with Martinez and bits of the Vera fights. He hasn't overly impressed me, but to be fair, I haven't watched enough to form a real opinion. I might check out his fight later. What's his best weight? He always looks obese outside of the ring, is he naturally big or just a lack of discipline?
Took up boxing late and was a skinny kid whose frame grew until he was 25 and his muscle size continues to grow. He's technically a natural LHW, but my guess is he'll fight at 168 for a couple yrs anyways. At least he aint gonna be starving himself to a corpse to be making 160 anymore. I rate him top 5-10 at either SMW or LHW. Possibly #1 SMW if he can get his head screwed on straight and stay focused outside the ring.:think
He has a solid chin, is physically strong, action style, and has had great matchmaking(and favorable judging) over the years with the Chavez name. Limited on skills, athletic ability, and terrible training discipline. In terms of how actually "good" he is, when he was at Middleweight he was paper title level. Around the Super Middleweight/Light Heavyweight division, who knows. I would guess maybe a little worse than fringe contender level.
His chin is the biggest myth in boxing, when you outweigh a guy by 25lbs it's not impressive that he is taking their punches. If he stays at 175 Stevenson or Kovalev will show us what his chin is really like. They starch him.
Jr. is an illusion created by special laboratory "supplements" and fighting physically overmatched opponents. Some of this illusion is going to be shattered---maybe soon.:yep
