    Yep

And 'chins' is linked to recovery rate and resistance

You can knock a man down 10 times and he will stand right back up and knock you down

Boxing is a brutal sport. and 'going to sleep' is the brains reaction to getting slammed around in the skull.

Not something that should be judged and mocked really..

hard to say. He really has not fought the really cream of the crop hard punchers yet. How would his chin hold up to a Thomas Hearns type punch? Even a Roberto Duran right hand which was hard even at middleweight.

Macklin troubled Sergio to a certain extent. But fizzled out once Sergio turned on second gear

I think Jr's chin is like his Dads. But all it takes is a well timed punch which Martinez can pull off.

Sergio a year ago was a sure shot to beat Chavez, but not now. Sergio seems to have aged a bit.

If Zbik troubled him, Martinez will chew him up.

I think there's not testing? I'm not sure if that's correct.

Thus far I think we can call it a solid chin. If he goes twelve with Sergio, it should be classified and cast iron!

I wouldn't call Martinez a Hearns or Mugabi caliber puncher. Hagler had a cast iron jaw.

Well Chavez Jr has a **** defence so he'll be getting hit a lot more than Hagler did against Hearns. That's also a factor which should be taken into consideration.

Defense has NOTHING to do with your Chin. Tex Cobb has absolute **** Defense and an Iron Chin. Your Chin IS your second line of defense.

If you have an Iron Chin your defense shouldn't/doesn't matter.

    Do you understand this?

No, I understood it. You just don't know what you are talking about. If you have a Chin defense doesn't matter one damn bit. None. If Amir Khan had a Chin his mediocre Defense would not matter. He doesn't have a Chin so he will keep getting savagely and embarrassingly KOed.

Chavez has something his father had, he always moves forward, which helps him because it keeps his opponent off balance, but he will run into some strong guys as he moves up and he will probably be knocked out in his next 5 fights. I do like Chavez heart and his love for brawling and proving his heart, but eventually someone comes along who punches so hard that it doesn't matter how much heart a fighter has Taking the punches he did against Lee will not work as he fights better guys. He either has to improve his defense or he loses to better fighters like Sergio Martinez. If he loses to Sergio, then that means Sergio has gone down from his prime fighting years, because Sergio should beat JCC Jr.

Defense will always matter, as you can be pot shotted to a unanimous decision. Regardless if your chin is iron or not. If you let punches land on you flush, it will get counted.

Defense always matters... You can have the strongest chin, and still lose fights because you can't defend the punches coming at you.:yep

Also a chin always matters, you can have the best defense in the world, but eventually you are gonna get hit.

But i understand your point.. that good defense has nothing to do with the ability to absorb a shot.
