Mind Reader lets not argue Chins with me please.....Of course you can lose a fight if you have a 'strong' Chin as you put it by Decision.

What I am saying is your Chin IS the second line of defense and if you have one your Defense is not that important and you will be around late in a fight to be able to stop your opponent where as a Glass Jawed fighter would have been KOed by that point. :good

Hagler, LaMotta, and Chuvalo weren't punching bags. It's extremely hard to catch guys with shots they don't see.

I completely understood what you said...

Would you rather have an Iron Jaw, with little defensive ability?

Or a shaky jaw, with Whitaker like defense?

Iron Chin all day long. A Chin is THE most important attribute to have. If you are an Iron Chinned fighter you will ALWAYS be around and have a shot at KOing a guy that has a Slick Defense like a Whitaker if they are tired late in the fight.

Of course skills also matter also but a Chin is essential. :good

Look back a couple of years: THE iron chin in boxing was named Paul Williams. We know how that turned out. Anyone who gets caught by a hard punch that they don't see, with their chin hanging in the hair, can get KTFO. The fighters with best chins also tend to have excellent chin-tucking technique (Hopkins, for instance). Junior has a very solid chin from what I've seen, but he only fights smaller fighters. I don't see Martinez denting Junior's 180+ pound chin.

mosley proved to me when he knocked out margarito that it you hit someone enough iron chin or not he'll go down and trust me martinez is gonna hit chavez with everything. chavez has a chin but hes going down!

If Chavez can weather the storm, he should win the fight. This should be a competitive fight. It won't be a shut out as both can be hit clean.

When Martinez show boats with his hands down low style approach, is when Chavez should apply pressure.

Seems to have a good chin but as others have mentioned, his defense sucks. Martinez will be landing constant hard shots and will be too much for Chavezs chin. I can see Chavez being able to take a lot of his but everyone has a limit. If Martinez doesn't win by late KO he wins a decision (considering there is no outside influence on the judges).

I think martinez does that for that reason so who ever he's fighting can throw punches creating more counterpunching oppurtunities. If he did that he's gonna be falling into martinez's traps.

Chavez chin has been very good till this point, on the hand Martinez has already been ktfo and down a couple of times.

Yeah he does you're right but i have watched his fights on pins sometimes when he gets caught and has pressure applied onto him.

Tell G-Man that. He had one of the best Chins of all time, but had he used a better defense, would tragedy had happened?
