All the above is getting a bit pathetic really and when the 'mum' and 'bird' gags get brought out there really are no winners. If I were Billy I wouldn't rise to it, but while he appears to me to be a very decent bloke I have to say he becomes pretty childish himself and also struggles with criticism that Ricky gets (some of it just).

My take on Ricky Burns is this; he was probably underdeserving of his shot at a world title in the first place. He was undefeated for a while but wins came against low level opponents. However, he proved himself to be worthy of that shot in the seven of or fights that followed, including picking up another world title at lightweight. However, I think he probably needs to take a step back down to euro level (which happens to be domestically) before going back up again because lets be honest for the last 33 rounds of his career he has take a bit of a pounding. I appreciate he won the Jose Gonzalaz fight but if anything that was more one sided for the first 8 rounds than the next two fights were and it was the inexperience of Gonzalez coupled with the heart and fitness of Burns that led to the result we got.

I can't imagine that Burns isn't doubting himself a bit and he appears burnt out at the moment. I think he could beat Beltran but that fight holds no aces and if Vasquez or someone else beat him then there would be no place for him to go. He could get some good pay days if he took a tune up, then the winner of Murray-Crolla, then fought for a world title (won that isn't a WBO strap would be nice as well). I def think he needs a break and has to set himself some new goals. I wish him the best.
