He has a good shell on the inside by the looks, but he is square with low hands. You need to be extra special to make that work. Even Jones wasn't this square.

How special, how good, in your opinion?

Very good and getting better and better at the pros. His only hot moment so far came when Darling Jimenez scored and off-balance knockdown and Gamboa still won 9 rounds out of 10 with an injured right hand.

He couldn't knock out Jimenez, but healty and back at 126 he delivered what most expected:

Everything about this combination is expectional, especially when you consider that his left gloved is being pinned. But his punching is not in question, I think - what do you make of his defencive shortcomings and do you think his chin is up to picking up any shortfall?

No doubt about his punching power and skill. The guy even attacks like a little Mike Tyson. But, I am thinking the same as you my friend. He will need to learn to keep the hands up, or else it will catch up with him sooner or later. It always does. Roy was and is a freak of nature.

questionable chin but has excellent offense.., i'd like to see what he does in his next fights hopefully he learns to keep his hands up. He can't rely on his natural athletic ability to dodge punches forever

Well it even caught up with Roy when he started to slip. There is a little flurry in the first section of the video I posted, though, where he slips three quickish punches all thrown pretty accurately...I wonder.

    On a scale of 1 to 10.....

His chin has been tested a bit by taking some hard shots and it seems he takes a good shot. I give him an 8 so far.

But his defense is very suspect and has way to many holes. I give him a very generous 6 so far.

But his combination of speed and power is definately rare. He get a 10 for speed and a 9 for power.

So the guy is an 8.5 over all pretty damn good for a prospect.

Let see how he does as he ups his level of competition.

A fair post overall, though I would downgrade him on chin - just to be safe, rather than expectation, i'd give a legend like Joe Louis an 8 for chin, you know? - and defence, as you say, six is a little generous.

Let's break him down on speed a little further.

Handspeed? He's like lightning when he's looking for volume, but i'd like to see him shorten up his punches a bit when he's on the outside when he is throwing in combinations. You might get away with that **** when you are throwing form your waste, but against a fighter with a good chin he could be dropped off an attempted power-shot which is thrown as part of a combo.

Reaction time? Very impressive, top tier if not amongst the very best ever, but it's tough to be certain. We'll no more when we see him in with some really fast guys.

Footspeed? Very quick, but he takes to many steps and this will affect his balance. If he can sort out his positioning, this footspeed will stand him in good stead.

Well, I don´t think we need to discuss his offense, it´s exceptional. His chin is still largely untested even so he took some hard shots. His defence has holes and he holds his hands low. I wonder if he only does this because he is out-classing his opponents. If not, he really has to work on this or will be caught sooner or later. I have high hopes on him.

I have high hopes too, but I don't think his style is opponente related. He's not fighting from a technical stance, and drilling that into him as he steps up is literally the last thing they would want to do with him. What he's testing now is what he has to use late.

What you might see is a bit more reticence, like we saw with Jones, some pot-shotting, some stationary defence. We'll see.

I don't recall any other fighter been rush so fast no question about his skills he is trying too hard to please his team who describe him as a complete package, he still have flashes from his amateur days I think with few corrections he will have a long career.
