Didn't he fail a drugs test after the Lebdev fight recently? Also failed one after the Johnny Nelson fight.
Could haven't feasibly put in a good argument for being the second greatest cruiserweight ever if he'd been managed more capably. He sure looked like he had the good when he immolated Wayne Braithewaite and a still-competent Kelvin Davis, both in four rounds. The wins over Brudov and Arslan were nice as well. Now imagine if he'd faced O'Neil Bell, Mormeck, Dale Brown, Carl Thompson, and Sebastian Rothman around the time he beat Braithewaite. I'd have picked him to beat all three. And what if he'd faced and beaten Antonio Tarver after Tarver beat Danny Green? Throw in a win against Zsolt Erdei or Troy Ross, and maybe Ola Alofabi if you like. By cruiserweight standards that's an impressive resume, and given Jones' manic but effective offense, I don't consider it a stretch to think he could have beaten all those guys.
He did not look too special to me. When he gave old man Nelson a fright, the name did not click as the man who blew the Boudouani fight. He could of made more of an impact after the Cunningham bout, but I get the impression his heart is not quite in the sport. I tend not to give any benefit of the doubt to fighters who put on 40lbs in their 30s and seemingly fight once a year tops...
