Good? Very good? Or do the statistics inflate it somewhat?

Well let's see, Won the title against a tough Mexican fighter Mario Martinez. Defended it Ten times succesfully. Against the likes of Lockridge,Laporte,Mayweather. Moved up & demolished Edwin Rosario. Unified the championship by defeating Jose Luis Ramirez. Moved up again by defeating Mayweather. All this and he was also undefeated in 80 something odd fights- I'd say that damn impressive- For any fighter!

    Mighty impressive:

    Mayweather (twice)

    LaPorte

    Rosario

    Ramirez

    Martinez

Even his second tier title opponents and non title wins were pretty decent

    Cortes

    Fuentes

    Vice

    An ancient Limon

    Carbrera

    Perez

    Bumphus

Chavez post Rosario, was Tyson aside, as good as boxing got in the late 80s.....

Damned impressive resume. Even more impressive was the way he dominated most of his opposition. Julio Cesar Chavez was phenomenal. One of the best fighters to come down the pike in a long, long time. And it's the quality of opposition and the way you beat them that determines this.
