i'v seen the dean hickman fight as well as his last fight he looked very good against hickman, but TBH hickman was moving down from 140 to fight murray
his last fight was very messy against a journeyman who campaigns at feather weight, i'd have expected to see a TKO even if the fight was at short notice, as for competition hes had 20 odd fights and theres no names, or eye catching records from any of his opponents, his knock out percentage looks pritty average considering the type of opponents hes faced and he doesnt seem that active he hasnt fought in the last 4 months
how does he do domestically against guys like limmond, thaxton, meager etc

I will always hate Murray for screaming that he was going to break Ricky Burns in half on SKY, & then he pulled out of the fight after it was made, prefering to continue to fight journeymen instead.

I will be cheering on Foulkes like hes a scotsman.

He's okay, at domestic class. The problem is every single fight seems to be a war for him. He's had far too many wars considering the level of competition hes facing, which suggests he wouldn't fair too well at a higher level. A lot of it is down to his come forward style, and penchant for taking a punch to give a few of his own

As for the fights you mention, I think he'd beat Thaxton at this stage. He's started to look really old recently, and I think Murray would just outlast him given his youth. It would be a war too...

I'd favour him to outpoint Limond who isn't a big man at this weight, but it's no cert

Not sure about Meager, havn't seen him for a while

Murray's win over Hickman was impressive - all the more as Hickman usually campaigns at light welter.

Last performance against mexican Munguia poor - can be risky taking overseas assignments at short notice less than a month after your previous fight!

Although he hasn't fought during last four months that is partly due to the Froch bill being postponed from March originally.

Understand he was inactive during part of 2007 due to an accident keeping him out for a few months. Still managed to rack up 4 wins that year though - three by TKO and bagged the English Title.

How good is he? About to find out - John Fewkes is a tough first Title defense.

The observation about Murray geting tagged too often and his level of competition reminds me of some of the criticism Kevin Mitchell gets. Although even he got some credit from his critics after his win over Johanneson. Hopefully Murray will also get some IF he beats Fewkes.

I think Murray has a good chance of beating Thaxton and Meager. Too young and fresh for Thaxton now and Meager has been quite inactive of late - only two fights last year, one of which was a draw. Limond would be interesting and more competitive.

His ko ratio is not that bad seeing he has fought heavier men then Khan and Mitchell have done.
He beat Guebbas who retired Danny Hunt, he ko'd Hickman who ko'd Adnam Amar.
Knocked out the Heavier Tyrone wiggins in the same time Demitrus Hopkins did.
Is only one of a few to of knocked out Billy Smith and Ben Odamattey
Stopped Daniel Thorpe in the same time as Khan , Beat Ramagoadi quicker then Kevin Mitchell
His last opponent in Vegas Beat the then undeafeted Juan Diaz Brother Jose Diaz and last weekend lost on points in a close fight to Mayweather trained Wes Ferguson.

murray doesn't hit hard enough for that style of his.

even someone like ricky hatton has struggled a little since he's moved into top class.

hatton was a lot more dominant and hit harder on the way thru than murray ever has.

    european level for murray.

Murray has a nice style of fighting - tidy, compact, accurate - and importantly doesn't take shots clean. This fight with Fewkes will be equal to Khan's with Limond. Fewkes having the same lack of power as Limond, more speed but less experience.

Hitman -Hatton's not a clean puncher. Half his shots are cuffs which is why he lacks impact at a higher level. Murray plants his shots and aims for accuracy. He's an altogether cleaner puncher than Hatton IMO.

he's very good. a measure of how good he is can be seen in the Hickman fight where he took on a light welter.

Hopefully we'll see him at his best again on Sat with ITV (4) and America watching. Murray has said some of his best performances have been in front of US audiences (on undercard bouts in Vegas and Florida) and he has a US audience this time on ShoBox. If he beats down Fewkes or if he edges him on points it will be a great result.

Last time we saw a fight like this for an ENGLISH title Meager and Danny Hunt put on a mini classic (also at lightweight). For my money, Murray and Fewkes are much better fighters

Now that John Fewkes has apparently withdrawn from their upcoming fight John Murray may be fighting Martin Gethin on Saturday instead.
