Pretty decent, not world class though. He poses Khan problems with his power and determination. he holds the British title as is a good solid pro. He also gave Ricky Hatton hell, when Ricky was on his way up, this is probably the reason why Warren is keeping Thaxton at arms length. It is a shame really because it is a good fight on paper. If Amir wants to be world champ he shou ldb able to deal with guys like jon thaxton.
Jon Thaxton was great ... In 1996.. 12 years later.. He is a more flawed fighter. Amir will beat him and its a shame they never met in both thier primes..
He hits harder than Limond and if Kahn hasnt learned from his mistakes he can fins himself being unstuck. if this fight is such a white wash in Khans favour, Warren would have made it by now. It the logical next step, instead of putting him in with Danish people who cant punch and who british fight fans have never heard of.
I know, Im personally still not sold on his china chin thing yet, I think its more to do with the fact hes too reckless, but time will tell. If he struggles with Thaxton, his stock would go down in my eyes. I am of the opinion if your good enough, your old enough, so why not up the comp level by a few notches instead of this bull**** padding of his record. Take the Mexicans for example, most turn pro at about 15 and are constantly fighting tough, ok not incredible fighters, but they progress, and they fight about 6 times a year at Khans age, I wish British fighters progressed at that sort of rate, i guess its a sign of the times
May have been, pros spar each other all the time. i do know he spars with Junior Witter to get prepared for fights nowadays.
Thaxton , Hamed , Nelson, Witter, Rhodes were all Brendan Ingle fighters in the mid 90's .. Its poignant that only Witter and Thaxton remain... Amir will be too sharp..
elle told me about this news story that has just come out. Thaxton's camp have made a new offer to Amir Khan as they seek to seal a deal for the pair to meet. Only last week Khan withdrew from the bidding process for his proposed British title challenge to Thaxton, for which purse offers were due to be opened on Wednesday. Instead Khan will meet Denmark's Martin Kristjansen in London next month, a showdown that promoter Frank Warren hopes will be ratified as an eliminator for a WBO title shot. However Thaxton, who is pursuing Khan to present him with the four white feathers he promised the Bolton fighter should their domestic clash fail to materialise, has not given up hope. His promoter Mick Hennessy said: "Thursday afternoon, this week we sent a fax to Sports Network along with a copy to Asif Vali offering Amir £400,000 to fight Jon. I want to give Amir one final opportunity to do what we believe to be the right thing, "Jon's even prepared to fight him on his own turf, at the Bolton Arena on April 5th. British boxing fans want to see this fight so let's give it to them, all you need to do Amir is accept our generous offer and step up to the plate."
