How good is Lucian Bute, really? What expectations do you have of his career?

Given the style disadvantage against him, it will be impressive if he wins at all!

Take Calzaghe against Hopkins. Now assume Hopkins has the stamina to go for 12 rounds. How impressively would Calzaghe beat him?

    See...this is the problem...

Indeed, that is why I was surprised that you seemed so confident.

I am confident because I know Bute knows exactly how hard this fight will be. I am also confident because I know Bute is a better boxer than Andrade. I am also confident because I believe Bute would dig deep to win. If he has to fight Andrade, he will. I am also confident because Bute knows this will be one of those defining fights and his most important to date. This fight will even make him a legitimate force or will sink him.

What do you think the odds of Kessler vs Froch coming off?

I've heard talk of Pascal being a possible opponent for Froch.

i.e. the winner of Pascal v. Zuniga to take on Froch for the vacant WBC title. This is the fight that Hennessy will be campaigning for, of course. But more likely, Pascal will fight for the WBO.

Kessler will probably have a say, though, because he is ranked just after Froch (and Inkin - but he pulled out).

So, I don't see why Kessler v. Froch wouldn't happen, if Kessler wanted it.

Why wouldn't Kessler want to win a belt against an unbeaten puncher like Froch?

Unless he gets Taylor, which I doubt, he'll rather fight Froch for the WBC rather than screw around waiting for Mandy to vacate the WBA.

I would say chances are 40%.:good

Yeah, but you are biased, being quite a Bute fan and all; let's wait and see what Bute haters like MSTR come up with...

...anyway, he can make good money even if he has an Erdei style career. I hope he doesn't, though...much more glory and much more money if he dares to be great.:good

I cannot believe what pioterbezkitu voted for...He is a good poster and a good predictor but he's clearly had enough of my postings, so he's lashing out! :bart

Even Bute hater jaco was fairer...

Do you seriously think Bute will do as well as, say, Calzaghe?

He's not a slapper but he is very tentative. I don't like that. If he runs against Andrade, I'll stop being a fan. Hopefully, we'll see a different side of Bute, against Andrade - a more combative side.;)

I like Taylor. Did you see how well he came back against Pavlik? He gave his very best for and in that fight. I hope he gets back on track, but he should really stay at 160.

Carl Froch is good for boxing, or at least he would be if he ever got into the ring with a B level fighter close or in their prime.

Still, I'd love to see Kessler starch him.:yep

Bute was tentative against Bika but I let him off the hook because he was inexperienced and Bika was awkward. Bute was tentative against Berrio but I let him off the hook because Berrio was a hell of a puncher - a tricky puncher, no less...

But against Joppy...I didn't like what he did; you might say he was just giving fans their money's worth, but in that case, why was he fighting Joppy in the first place?

I am very glad he has to fight Andrade.

It's the defining fight for him!:good

I think he'll be a B+ fighter who'll make quite a few defenses now and then and earn himself a pretty nice reputation in the long run.

He's still a bit of a work in progress and isn't perfect...but he's got a fair mix of weapons on offense and while flawed defensively, it's not as bad as some people tend to make him out to be. He's been managed pretty well IMHO...with a fair array of opposition for a young guy ranging from cagey tough veterans like Joppy and Bika to serious KO guys like Berrio.

I think a slick counter puncher with a solid workrate will trouble him but he doesn't have much to worry about since those sort of fighters aren't exactly easy to find.

I think he'll be on the scene for a while assuming he stays committed.
