How good is Lucian Bute, really? What expectations do you have of his career?

Boxing while going back is NOT RUNNING! If he's able to fighter backwards, good for him, not many boxers can do it.

Plus, it IS a style of boxing. You know, the boxer type? Go in, go out, move around. Andrade is a swarmer type of boxers. To beat swarmers, you have to stay away. Especially since this particular swarmer has a granite chin.

Why would Bute trade with him? It's no use, he won't put him down. So Stephane Larouche's plan is probably to box his ears off. Move around, stick.

I don't expect him to stand and trade and would not recommend it.

Sure...I wasn't suggesting he'd be running if he boxed going backwards/turning, etc.

I was talking of actual running - the kind of stuff Guzman did in the 12th round against Soto, for example.

I've never seen Bute run then. Against Bika, he was boxing and moving around. :rasta

    He's never run, true.

But I don't want him to win the kind of decision that Dzinziruk "won" against Konecny either, just walking backwards and boxing...He needs to fight a bit too, I think. This is the pros...Sure, I don't think he should trade with Andrade or go toe-to-toe, but he needs to stand up and fight from time to time too...otherwise, even if he wins, it will leave a sour taste in our mouths...

I understand what you mean. Though, in some cases, I would call it Intelligent to fight your opponent on grounds he's not confortable with. In this case, Andrade has had problems with the boxer type i.e Kessler. If you watch the Kessler fight, he was boxing Andrade and seldom did he "Stand up and fight".

So I don't think you're going to be overjoyed with this bout. If you wanted to see a FOTY, Bute would've needed to be Mexican and trained by Mexicans.

As long as he fights intelligently, gives a good account of himself and doesn't run, I'll be happy. It's a hard fight for him.:good

I expect Bute to really hammer Andrade with combinations. Librado is one of my favorite fighters...but he can get boxed to bits when he starts getting behind on the cards. For instance the last 5 rounds against Mikkel Kessler he got messed up BADLY because he became a one punch robot trying to seek and destroy against a superior boxer. Lucien may not be as sound as Mikkel but if you don't let Andrade's crazy man boxing style and granite chin deter you, it can be duplicated.

I think it'll be similar to that although not as wide a scoring margin.

I agree with you. Bute will land combos and move. A lot of combos. In his training camp against Joppy, Larouche trained Bute a different way. He sparred a lot of rounds, 3 or 4 normal rounds, then 3 intense rounds. That's why Bute did not finish Joppy. It was not the game plan. Near the end, Larouche told Bute to change gear. It was over for Joppy. IMO, that strategy was not for Joppy, but for Andrade, who has an excellent stamina.

Unfortunately for Andrade, Bute has also an excellent stamina. I predict a ko for Bute after he changes gear, in very late rounds. I know Kessler didn't succeed, but Bute throws many hard shots to the body, more than Kessler. That will be the key.

Technically one of the better fighters I've seen come along in a while. But boxing is a much more mental sport than people realize. When he faces the top tier fighters and shows composure under fire I'll be a lot more certain.

At this point I think he's one of the best prospects in the division along with Ward. He's a little further down the road than Ward and at that critical juncture where it's make or break time.
