How good is Margarito's chin?

    Put it this way - Most 147lb fighters in the last 10 years, if not all of them, get knocked out by Shane Mosley if they take that many consecutive power shots - as he did that night. He has a granite chin, but he probably won't have one any longer. Mayorga, remember?

    Margo has a great chin. That's one thing that nobody can take from him.

    He has one of the best around. I mean if most people blocked punches with their face they wouldn't last long. He went 9 taking flush shots from Mosley and of course Cotto was dropping bombs on it.

    as of right now his Chin is an unknown commodity. Before the Mosely fight it was very good but not Iron. We will have to wait and see.

    Very Good, from my perspective, if you have an iron chin that means nobody can knock you out, since Margarito was knocked out, I'll put him right after iron chin.

    There are very few fighters in the business that can be said to have an iron chin, in my view. One is Margarito, another is Andrade...there are others...please name them...they can all be, and in fact have been hurt/knocked down/out, but that doesn't mean they don't have an iron chin, imo.

    For me, the question is: since Margarito has a better than very good chin, is it iron or not, given that he has been hurt, kd'ed and ko'ed? I'd rather put him in the "iron chin" category than in the "very good" category, although, an intermediary category would be more appropriate perhaps.

    I mean Calzaghe went down against Jones and Hopkins and I think he has a very good chin. If you see the uppercuts Kessler was hitting with you'd know !

    So going down isn't always relevant to how to judge a chin.

    Wouldn't that definition be too demanding? It would be like saying: you only have one-punch KO power if you are able to KO anyone at all, as long as you did in fact land flush. The reason this definition is too demanding is that...well...what would happen if a one-punch KO power guy landed flush on an iron chinned guy...?? We'd have to assume that one of them wasn't the real thing, but which one?;)

    A definition is useful only if it can apply to extraordinary but existing people, in my view.

    His chin is still rock solid IMO. Only reason he was KOed against Msoley is because he was clearly exhausted by all the wrestling around at the end and Mosley took advantage and knocked him out... but as usual Margo was standing up to massive bombs up till that point so even in defeat his still proved he could take quite a shot.
