If he doesn't fight Khan in May, he is a possibility for September. Khan is gonna be on his bike. Quick 1-2s then getting quickly getting out of the way so Mayweather's ability to cut off the ring is gonna be vital. We haven't seen Mayweather have to do much of it so i thought who better to ask than the boxing scholars of Boxing News 24 Forum.
Your local gym. Mayweather steps forward wisely and while he never "pins" an opponent against the ropes, I think he places his body perfectly with his feet moving forward. Did well against Mosley and Hatton doing that when he did after the half way point of said fights.
Go watch some fights on Khan and you will bet your life savings on a late stoppage if not a KO:hey Floyd is training everyday, 24/7, and always in perfect condition so Khan is in for a beat down from the master of 140 to 154:happy Watch Floyd in the ring closely and you will see his eyes never avert from the guy in front of him. :smoke
He wouldn't have to cut off the ring that much with Khan. Khan may have fast feet but he doesn't actually know how to fight properly off the back foot. He moves plenty but when moving he never scores much, it's purely defensive. He is always eager to initiate the attack when not moving so in reality all Mayweather has to do is wait for Khan to inevitably attack and Khan will come to him and Mayweather will counter him all night long.
X 2 Khan can't fight off the back foot at all. It's so dramatic that he looks like he's a few centimeters of further elevation from actually being on his tip toes. Sometimes when he's not exchanging he can only fight with his body in an almost forward lean working off his lead foot. Honestly I could see Mayweather boxing Khan more than Maidana. I think he'd be content to fight Maidana flat footed in the pocket (although Broner got wasted that way, lets not try to compare those two nor their fighting styles)... One thing about Floyd: In almost every fight since moving to 140, Floyd has fought his opponents' fight. He really has. And he beats them at it every time.
Khan is confident because he feels he can get inside, land his punches, and quickly get out of the way for the return. That's gonna be his gameplan. Khan feels he has the speed to do that so disregarding the notion that Mayweather will have to cut off the ring is ridiculous given Khan's gameplan, speed and reach.
He did what he always does move around his opponent and not scoring. He then jumps in and beats his opponent to the punch, but he is being the aggressor here, the movement in between him attacking doesn't make him a good boxer because a good boxer would be able to score off the back foot and draw his opponent in making them miss and then countering. But Khan doesn't know how to counter, when he makes an opponent miss he does nothing which is a big flaw in his game. Khan has twice been KO'ed both times he was counter punched while coming in, it isn't a coincidence, it's a flaw. A skilled boxer would jab and feint to draw an opponent into making a mistake. Khan doesn't do this, he just tries to out speed his opponent.
In the Diaz fight, Khan tries to gauge range with his left hand which was primarily being used as a defensive mechanism.
Khan lacks the boxing IQ to compete with Mayweather. He doesn't have the game to box on the backfoot. He will initiate attacks, and Mayweather will pick him off. He'll be KOd by a straight right from Floyd or a left-hook.
