He's more of an offensive coach ..I thought both Khan and Manny had trouble when their opponents were on the attack ..Marquez and Peterson ..Their conditioning has kept them in the fights but defense looked way too suspect .
the numbers tell the story, Roach is a legend and probably the best trainer since Futch right now though, the parkinsons is starting to take it's toll. Actually it's already taken it's toll
atsch "Oh my GAWD!" We all know you only say this because he trains the god you worship, also known as Dapidran.
he is very good more focussed on offense then defense but that isn't a major problem.parkinson is getting worse i think can't really talk in the corner much anymore sadly
Linares got worse under Roach. Kahn has not improved under Roach. JCC JR. HAS improved under Roach. The list goes on. Hes a good trainer, but not for everyone. Chemistry has a lot to do with it, as does the fighter temperament. Freddie is good with offensive fighters who are mentally tough and have good chins. If you are not those things, your probably not a great match for Freddie.
Roach can't turned average boxers into elites those kinds are born not made. You can't teach chin, speed and power. It is a gift from the heavens. As a trainer he is great when he has a amazing boxer to begin with. But Linares and Khan are all flash no real substance.Khan runs in a scuffle and Linares has no chin.I don't think either are power hitters in the game.
The most overrated coach in a long while. He is a good trainer, but not remotely as good as the hype machine and dumb masses make him out to be.
Roach gets the best of his fighters. He does all the little things top notch. crazy experience and passion for the sport. Great example is latef kayode. most people dont know kayode is really 49.
Hes a good offense trainner, also a good match maker, and agree that his style is good for brawlers but put them infront of a boxer and they get exposed. Fighter looses to a boxer most of the time.
A good trainer is an important part of the formula. However, the fighter must be willing to listen to the trainer and have the discipline to implement the fight plan. The same thing happened with Steward in the past and when his fighters began to lose everybody began to jump ship. It seems like the next trainer to be over hyped is Robert Garcia. Still though we must give credit to Roach as he was one of the only American trainers that saw something in a young Pac Man.
Look there is always has to be a media darling and that's who Roach is. Ofcourse he is a good trainer, HOWEVER he is NO WHERE NEAR the best trainer, not even close. Manny, Khan, Linares & Chavez Jr all lack defense, inside fighting, fighting backwards etc etc I mean how many times have we seen a wildcard fighter against the ropes eating upper cuts? People like Tyson, Toney, Hopkins were already master boxers and didn't require Roach to teach them skills but go over game plans and help with timing and conditioning. Roach is the chosen one but thats as far as it goes.
