I got to meet Roger and shake his hand/get a pic with him when I went down to Vegas for the Marquez vs. Mayweather bout. I was amazed at how short/skinny the guy was. He was tiny compared to me. Very quiet, didn't say a word the whole time he was taking pictures with the fans. I got the impression that he didn't like being in crowds, but it could've just been a bad day or something.
The guy know his ****. He might not be everyones cup of tea but they man knows boxing. He has handled Floyd very well, especially with the ego Floyd has.
Floyds a confidence fighter aswell and Roger saying **** like "He aint got **** on you" and "beat his ass, he aint ****", its probably more to keep Floyd thinking he is on top of things and the better fighter - which he usually is, so it works. Roger is an avid boxing man, studies the art and seem obsessed with boxing, he isnt to be underrated. Definately predicts fights a lot better than Floyd Snr. It will be interesting PBF Vs Pac, because none of the Mayweathers have rated Pac and they have been consistant with that opinion.
Floyd didnt really help Oscar against Vargas, even Foreman said Oscar probably would've knocked Vargas out earlier with Alacazar and Clancy.
Roger told Floyd not to stay on the ropes because that would give the judges an impression DelaHoya was landing. You are obviously overlooking many factors, the conrner is there for strategy yes, control like when you are not implimenting strategy and motivation when you are not doing enough or are discouraged.Roger telling Floyd to whoop his ass was just motivational talk,to get Floyd psyched up and be more aggressive. You have seen some trainers slapping their fighters,it's still another motivational tool.In short Roger is a great trainer.
