I hear where your coming from but Martinez just moved up to MW and started his career at Welter... Hagler and Monzon were at Mw their whole career and never moved up and are legends and elite atg.. He should wait for Pac and May and if not then fight Pirog,Sturm or some of the top big names at Jm (Angulo, kirkland, or Canelo in the future)... I guess those days are kind of long gone when fighters stood in their natural divisions and dominated.

I would say with his wins over pw, pavlik, dzinziruk, his overall good record and simply being a special boxer, with phenomenal athletic abilitys I would put him at 8,5

Sergio Martinez is GREAT! It's very, very obvious. However, imagine if the guy started boxing as a young kid instead of at 20 years of age....scary. He certainly wouldn't have lost against Margarito.

Pretty darn good, that's for sure. He seems to be getting better. PEDs? That's what haters would say. Like Boy Joy fans accuse Pacman of. He's good for boxing.

    :rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl

The hyperbole on this site is just ridiculous sometimes.:patsch

Martinez is a decent fighter. On the level of Hagler, Leonard, Hearns or Duran? Not even close.:nono:-(

As others have said if he had better competition to face that would allow him to amass a much deeper resume. That being said if he fights another three years with two or three fights per year and beats something like Kirkland, Matt Macklin, Sturm, Sylvester, Chavez Jr., and Canelo Alverez he would have a decent niche in boxing history. But if he jumped up to supermiddle I think he'd beat Froch, Dirrell, Abraham, Jermain Taylor (coming back), and Allen Green. If he beat two or three of those guys on top of that then he'd really be close to atg status.

he is very good. I want to see him fight one more dominant fight against a top guy before I match him in my mind against guys as good as Marvin Hagler or Thomas Hearns.

Good enough to wipe out all competitors at 160. If he's matched right, he could even beat a few people and win a belt at 168.
