How good is Shakur?

Even if that’s true, it doesn’t change the fact that Stevenson lacks killer instinct and that he doesn’t try to finish fights.

 

After 8 or 9 rounds breaking Teo apart he could have at least go on all offense to end the fight early

 

Yeah, there was something "different" about Mayweather and Whitaker where they were just so incredibly rounded and had a flash and level of athleticism that I don't quite think Shakur has. Not really a knock on him, but Mayweather and Whitaker are arguably two of the top five head-to-head fighters ever.

But when Shakur is in the pocket or walking guys down, the parrying, slipping, catching, rolling, etc. is old school, high level stuff. The kind of composure and innate distance control to do that is special. Not to mention the offensive sharpness and accuracy. Would it be nice if he had a higher output like Whitaker or looked to punish like a young Mayweather? Of course, but that's not him and it's working just fine. I'm definitely a fan.

 

I have to admit, that was a very impressive fight Shakur fought last night. I think where Shakur is involved I sometimes watched his fights instead of watching the fighter if that makes sense. The skill level he showed last night really got my attention, he dominated a good fighter in Lopez. Shakur shut down any adjustments he tried to make, nothing worked. He literally outclassed him.

 

He’s excellent….but he’s definitely an Andre Ward / Hopkins type, moreso than a Mayweather / Crawford type….

Extremely effective and smart, hard to envision him losing….. but he ain’t fun to watch, and he lacks a mean streak and isn’t concerned with dealing damage.

I appreciate him though, and actually enjoy the growth I’ve seen in the way he carries himself outside of the ring over the years.

Whether you like him or not, you gotta give him his dues, he's elite and there aint nobody who can beat him at 135, 140 or 147.

 

He is elite. A master at controlling distance has a good jab and very fast.
The best boxer the US currently has but still below the likes of Usyk, Inoue and Bivol.
