    He's undefeated as a professional with a record of 18-0, 15 by KO's.

Seen his fight vs Jorge Solis in which he won by TKO in the 11th round. Also, won vs Juan Carlos Salgado (rumored to be Gamboa's opponent for NOV 17, 2012) by TKO in the 12th.

He's currently the WBA Super featherweight champion. He defended his title 5 times.

Assuming Gamboa beat Juan Carlos Salgado to capture the IBF belt on NOV 17 and wanted to unify titles by challenging Takashi Uchiyama (WBA), who would win and why?

I remember he wanted to fight Broner for a unification bout years ago.

Strong Amateur background (91-22) where he won four lightweight titles.

    How good is he?

    Thoughts?

    Good Thread.

Uchiyama is one of the most underrated fighters in the sport. I predict he would drop Gamboa at least once. I'd go for Gamboa to win by a somewhat controvisal split or majority deicsion in an excellent scrap.

Can't see it happening though, TU represents big risk/little reward for Yuri.
Also Uchiyama seems keen to stay in Japan, where he could have a big fight unifying with Takihiro Ao. And I can't see Yuri going to Japan to fight as he wasn't keen to fight Chris John in Indonsiea either.

I would have prefered to see Yuri stop at featherweight and I wouldn't mind seeing him fight any of the Ring's top 10 (other than De Leon. A Salido rematch has more value to it now and as a comeback fight Lopez or Hasegawa are good shouts, thats not to mention that Donaire/ Mares/ Rigondeaux/ Nishioka/ Moreno could all step up. There isn't much in the way of big fights for him, even if he moves all the way up to 135.

Do you think eventually Takashi Uchiyama can move up to 147 (lbs) given he's 5'7 1/2 or is that wishful thinking on my part? Want to see him bang with the big dogs.

    :good

In fact I don't think his accomplishments in that division match that of Juan Carlos Salgado, who Uchiyama knocked out.

Not sure, he's in his early 30's now so might not have much growing to do. I think if he stops where he is the talent rich featherweight division will start to invade, starting with Gamboa, like how junior featherweight has suddenly gone form being a division that noone cares about to arguably having 4-5 fighter in the pound for pound top 25.
