He was a lot shorter than me, well-built but overall his frame was a lot smaller. I think he's listed at 5'8 but he's 5'7 or 5'6. I probably wouldn't have had a good career at all. I played football and basketball year-round, as well as competed in boxing, but I was really comoetitive in the other sports so coukd never focus on boxing enough to really develope. It's always been a passion of mine too, I didn't want to turn it into a job and repeatedly get my ass kicked for years and ruin it. Lastly I made a lot of bad decisions, spent 4 years in the US Marine Corps and then 4 years in the navy, so they took up a lot of time, and I have struggled with substance abuse for years........... It just wouldn't have worked out very well for me.
The likes of Darryl Sharp who have had numerous fights against "up and comers", whilst being on the losing end... they know how to get through a fight without taking a boat load of punishment (hence the low number of KO defeats in a high number of fights). A lot of them could really put it on these guys and show them a thing or two but then they might not get the call from the promoter the following week. Tough blokes.
I’d go as far to say any person who trains to fight would easy handle an untrained person on the street (in a fair 1v1 situation). In regards to weight, I’d put my money on a 180lbs good amateur over a 220lbs untrained lump. Having heart and actually being able to fight is two different things. The latter, most people suck at it.
