He went 12 rounds with Mares and got a draw. I think Mares is a better fighter than him though. I don't see anything special in him. If 1 is trash, 5 is gatekeeper status and 10 is elite...I would rank him a 6 or 7. Lol. Not that much of help...I know. Just watch his fights on youtube.
He is a pretty good fighter. I mean he has a title and is no pushover. He will give anyone in the division a tough time and i think after Mares he is probably the best bantamweight.
He's probably second in terms of his achievements at the weight, he's achieved more than Donaire, Mares even though he may have lost that fight, probably Moreno. I'd argue he's behind Montiel on an achievment basis though. And head-to-head wise he'd probably lose to Montiel, Donaire and Mares in a rematch at least. My rankings might be something like: 01. Fernando Montiel 02. Nonito Donaire 03. Abner Mares 04. Yohnny Perez 05. Anselmo Moreno 06. Joseph Agbeko 07. Vic Darchinyan 08. Nehomar Cermeno 09. Koki Kameda 10. Vusi Malinga That's a very quick, rough forecast though. I haven't given it much thought. What's certain is that it's one of the top 3 or 4 stacked divisions in boxing at the moment. So many top fights out there between those guys.
He's quite good, a little overrated I feel. He should have lost to both Agbeko and Mares, both those fights were pretty clear wins for the opposition in my opinion. The fights were close though, and Perez is pretty good all round, I think he could probably beat Darchinyan and I wouldn't be surprised if he beat Agbeko tommorow night. He is good enough to compete at the top of the division against anyone, however I think Montiel and Donaire are in a different league, they are absolute standouts IMO. He'd give them both tough fights though.
He is a decent domestic-grade professional. However, boxing fans will give him more credibilty if he faces European bantamweights Alexander Bahktin, Khabir Suleymanov, Wladmir Sydorenko, or Alexey Makhnenko.
Oh wow i forgot about those guys. Im having a hell of a day. Ok in order i would say Montiel Mares/Donaire Both of these have alot of talent but they havent shown it agains top level opposition yet. They really only have one notable win. Perez Agbeko Moreno i have actually neve seen fight so i cant commnet on him.
HAHA! Crazy Soviet. He just named the three top ranked Russian bantams, and threw in a Ukranian for good measure.
Contrary to a lot of what other people have been saying, I think Perez is outstanding. He throws loads of punches with decent mustard. I also think he has deceptively good movement to keep his opponents off balance.
