Johnson was a bad dude, and for a long time. He was a guy who came to fight, every minute of every fight. Busy, real good power, and that damn southpaw stance. He only lost to the elite fighters of his day. And if someone made the mistake of looking past him, or using him as a stepping stone, bad move. He finished Galindez, gave Sadd holy hell, and evn in losing, always gave a damn good account of himself. I read a very interesting tidbit on him years ago. He said that while in training camp, he wouldn`t shower or bath, felt it kept him nasty and in the `mood `No wonder opponents were reluctant to rumble inside with him...

A murderous punching, fast starting, very talented warrior ... huge heart, excellent conditioning ... happened to fight in one of the greatest light heavyweight eras in history when some of the great names were in their primes ... a war with a prime Saad, not the shot Saad Qwai beat .... fought perhaps the best Mustafa that ever was ... he would have crushed any of the fighters of the Virgil and Roy Jones and I'd pick him over either of those two at 175 as well ... great fighter in a era of exceptional fighters ...

Whenever I think of sporting championships in connection with Indianapolis, Marvin Johnson is always the very first that comes to mind. (In fact, usually the only name that comes to mind.) He could probably be their Mayor there if he chose.
