Duran had turned 45 years old 6 days before this match-up, and though I've never personally viewed the fight I've heard Duran convincingly deserved the decision. Camacho was 33 years old. Camacho was actually still a very solid fighter, though certainly not the fighter he once was. Relative to what Duran was though, he may as well still been world class through and through. So, thoughts on the fight? What did Duran do well in this match that saw him deserving of the verdict?

For some reason, I always keep going back to this fight....one of my all-time favorites and I can't explain why.....I thought Duran deserved the decision. Also probably one of Duran's last truly inspired performances.....to see the old Duran sneer then nail Camacho with a straight right that moved him back 6 feet was priceless! :good
It was superb for Duran in June of '96 against Camacho on PPV! Duran started slow, but got his ass in gear by round 5 and kept the heat on Camacho until the end of round 12... The decision was a political / economical ass-reaming of Duran... Nobody wanted to see SRL return for a mere 4th fight against Duran in 1997, so a 1st fight with Camacho was more interesting and profitable at the box-office... Camacho got a gift.... WORD! MR.BILL
Have not watched this fight in a long time. From what I recall,Camacho actually started out pretty aggressive, let his hands go and then gradually faded over the course of the fight. The fight was alot better than you'd expect a fight between the two(especially at that stage in their careers) to be.
Duran-Paz I was ****ing total rip-off. Duran was the boss in that fight. They gave the 5th a 10-10 despite Roberto coldcocking Paz and putting him on the canvas.
I felt my man Duran faded badly in rds 9 thru 12 against Paz in 1994... But Paz was really busted up and bleeding... A draw would've made my night... SERIOUSLY! :good:bbb MR.BILL:hat
You're clearly not seen that fight.Duran didn't do a damn thing besides score a knockdown.Pazienza dominated that fight like he dominated the rematch.
Duran was real tuff in fight # 1 of '94... No **** there... But Duran was lackluster in the rematch of 1995... I never liked Duran tipping in on the scale over 160 pounds..... Them fights he had at 162 to 168 pounds in the late 80s and 1990s displayed Duran as being rolly-pollyish.... Duran could still look reasonably ripped and tight at 156 -158 pounds after age 35.... 165? ARGH!! MR.BILLhat
I had a press pass (I believe from Fightnews when it was a rag tho I could have forged the same.). It was bull****. Paz's blows were entirely powder puff. Meanwhile, the punches Duran missed with were more telling.
Nothing much. I was kinda there for the fight (drunk as ****) but distinctly remember Paz doing an entire "act" of winning the fight, shoeshine bull****, playing the crowd. It made me wanna puke. What am I saying?:huh **** if I know.
10-4. Duran was tuff in 1994 at 163 3/4 pounds against Vinny Paz in Vegas, but that 167+ Duran weighed for the 1995 rematch was horrid on the part of team Duran... MR.BILL:hat
