calzaghe underrated himself. that's what happens when you let warren run your career and the best fighter you beat in your prime was mikkel kessler.
Andre Ward is one of the most overrated boxers in history. 1. He refused to fight in other countries during the Super Six, he had home advantage in EVERY fight. He needed dodgy officials to win. Compare that to Usyk, who won all his big fights in foreign countries. 2. He had dodgy home referees that permitted him to use illegal tactics (head butts, excessive holding, low blows, etc). Ward-Kovalev II was the first low blow TKO I've ever seen. The Kessler-Ward fight was stopped after Kessler was injured by an obviously deliberate head butt. 3. He had home judges who were there when he needed them - a good example was the robbery in Ward-Kovalev I. All three judges scored the 10th round for Ward, a round Kovalev clearly won. 4. He was the beneficiary of a robbery in the Olympics - he should never have won gold. 5. And he worked for years with a nutritionalist who was notorious for PEDs, an expert on how to use PEDs and not get caught. Without illegal tactics and his dirty officials, Ward was a mediocre boxer.
Great fighter one of my favorites to watch good skill good heart. I understand how he rubbed a lot of people the wrong way though.
Ward never liked to fight away from home either he like the home cooked decisions but sad part for him was he could never sell out his home town arena. He was one of the dirtiest over all fighters going there wasn't a foul he didn't use. He almost sterilized poor Kovalev while Weekes looked the other way
Was never fussed on him, boring to watch, not that he ever fought that often. Nah, never rated him, did nothing for me, another fighter that ppl vastly over rated, surprise surprise!
Andre Ward. Held Dawson to his word of fighting at 168. Dawson, who entered as the WBC Light Heavyweight Champion, was fighting at 168 pounds for the first time in over six years and seemed to be badly weight drained. The day of the weigh in Dawson had to shed 9lbs. Andre Ward. Said he would fight Floyd at 160. Andre Ward. Ran away when Gokovkin proposed a fight at 164. Retired with 32 fights. Lol.
