Right, so, if a performance is:
    • D level = domestic/national level
    • C level = Euro/Continental level
    • B level = world level; world class
    • A level = elite level; elite
...and e.g. B- = borderline world class but better than a top Euro level performance; C+ = top Euro level performance; B = solid world class performance...etc...

...how would you rate Calzaghe's best performance? How good was Calzaghe at his very best?

I assume that you can only put in a e.g. top world class performance (B+) against a fellow world class fighter in his prime (B- or B); thus, to be A+ for example, you'd have to have beaten a fellow elite in their prime, who also put in an elite level performance on the night (A- or A)...etc.

Please vote and explain your answer, if you wish.:good

personally i would say it was A-level against jeff lacy i fought he was immense that night, the kessler fight is probably a A/B and i dont think he has performed better then them two nights to be honest

The Lacy fight was an +A class whoopin, I wouldnt dare try to throw around A+ with Calzaghe, thats Prime Jones territory

On a poll? Or just write a reply with the answer?

I'll say either Eubank or Kessler - Before Lacy, I've watched about 10 fights of his, which outside of Eubank, never impressed me (his style is sloppy, imho, and the competition was downright awful)

Against Lacy, everyone calls it a virtuso performance, which I can UNDERSTAND, but just don't see it. Again, the style of the fight was just sloppy.

Against Kessler and Eubank, however, I was extremely impressed. Nothing sloppy about his performance in those fights at all.

EDIT: Now theres a poll, and it seems I've mis-interpreted the question. Against Kessler and Eubank, I'll give him an A-, and a B+ maybe for Lacy

Calzaghe against Kessler was even better than against Lacy. Kessler is a top quality fighter who adjusted his gameplan to Calzaghe's style before the fight, and Calzaghe re-adjusted DURING the fight and dominated the 2nd third of the fight. That was an A+ performance right there.

Against Hopkins, Calzaghe wasn't able to adjust quite as well because Hopkins' ring intellect is higher than Kessler's (or even Calzaghe's actually)

anyways i thought Calzaghe looked like a better fighter against Kessler than against Lacy

    A LEVEL.

calzaghe against lacy was as skillfull /masterfull a performance as a boxer can give.

    it was elite level.

you can count on the fingers of 1 hand boxers good enough to stand right in the pocket get off punch after punch while ducking/slipping/turning his opponent without getting hit back.

from a technical point of view it was a masterfull performance and it was also round after round at a very high pace with no let up.

for a fight that was perceived as 50/50 it was an elite level.

calzaghe threw every single punch in the book and many that are in any textbook in that fight and everything he did came off.

although he is lambasted by many , put calzaghe in with a fighter that comes onto him and does not look to spoil and he looks a million dollars.

people forget the way he reacted when he got knocked down against mitchell. he was probably on a B performence in the first round , got knocked down in the second then went turbo , probably landed 50 clean shots untill the fight was stopped. thats was A for me , no doubt!!

IMO his best performance from what i've seen is against Kessler and i'd rate him an A+ because of his ability to adapt which shows the ability of a great. He's also got the skill to go with it.

I went with A- to A. I think his best performance is by far the one against Kessler.

Anybody who claims that he's overall less than an A+ fighter at 168 pounds has an agenda against him.

Maybe so, but obviously your criteria can go to levels such as A++ and A+++; because Joe certainly doesn't match up well with some of the ATGs (forget at 168; just whichever fighter at whichever weight was theirs). That's who I consider A+

Perhaps I have a slightly harder criteria, I dunno :conf

People have been bagging Cal for a while, and only till his last fight would people know he had the wrong passport. So no.

Joe struggles to make the top 100 (p4p OR h2h), so at least 100 fighters can claim to be A++ or higher... if Joe himself is an A+ fighter.

Hence why I feel people's criteria has become slightly "easy" these days.
