How good was Calzaghe's best performance? (How good was Calzaghe at his very best?)

I think his best preformance was against Kessler because although it was a close fight, Kessler is much better than Lacy.

No I have him at 4 just above Cotto although if Cotto beats Margo I'll move him up to 4.

 

Margo is the type of guy to move someone up a spot or two P4P? A B level opponent who's been outclassed twice in recent times by other 2nd tier fighters?

Expect Cotto to wipe him out, it's a mismatch in talent and skill.

 

At the same time, Calzaghe can't of moved up due to Hopkins, cause according to you, there's NO way Hopkins was the type of guy to move someone up on a p4p list (mentioned more than MANY times before the fight)... And then especially with the display put on by Calzaghe.

So where do you actually rate Calzaghe on your personal p4p list? And did he move up after the Hops fight?

 

It's because there isn't much in it between Cotto and Calzaghe P4P. Margo is a world champ at WW and an impressive performance against him will be enough for Cotto to move up one place on my list.

 

He's a titlist, who won his recent one off of a poor titlist and lost his former title to what was another hype job/poor titlist. He's nothing of real note, all regard and no substance.

An impressive destructive victory should be expected because Margarito's such a poor fighter compared to true top 10's.

 

I rated him #2, now I rate him #3 after Hopkins, I stood by my word that I would move him down a notch if he wasn't entirely impressive and I did.

Though, even an old Hopkins has more substance than Margarito, much more.

 

Amsterdam and other Calzaghe fans were going on about how crap Hopkins was before the Calzaghe fight. He said Calzaghe should dominate and stop Hopkins. The fight happens, Calzaghe wins a close SD and many people including myself thought Hopkins won. Now they are acting like that's a great result and Calzaghe should be P4P top 2. It's crazy.

 

You are incompetent at scoring fights if you gave Hopkins more than 4 rounds, which even then is giving him the utmost benefit, but can be justified. Very clear win.

 

It's good that you've become more realistic about Calzaghe since the Hopkins fight. Soem of his fans have been getting a bit carried away.

Regarding Margarito, it's easy to pick apart any fighter's resume as you know. If Cotto beats him he'll have 5 title defences at 147 and a load of impressive wins at 140. Calzaghe has 3 title defences and some other impressive wins at 168 and a non so impressive win at 175. There isn't that much in it.

 

Calzaghe was coming forward waving his arms all over the place and kept getting countered. I'm sorry but this is boxing and I have to score for clean, effective punches. Simply coming forward isn't enough to win you the round.

 

Calzaghe has 21 title defences, his WBO strap was 100% legit because he won it in contest with a top fighter in Eubank, past it or not.

 

And Hopkins did hardly anything in the following rounds Calzaghe nullified his right, that was after the 4th, in which Joe picked up the 3rd, Joe easily won a stretch of some 6 rounds and won the final 2, there is no way to score it for Hopkins under the correct criteria and he landed many clean shots.
