P4P level talent, became over reliant on his power after a few of his KO wins on the big stage - despite having top tier boxing ability and good ring IQ. Seems were mostly in agreement on him around here, he’s earned the reputation - especially with the late career resurgence he had!
Yeah, he was just one of those guys that looked heavier than all of his opponents because of big bone structure. He was never actually a weight bully.
He was taller too and still is one of the tallest guys in the division. Majority are 5´6 or slightly shorter. The there are a bunch of guys who are 5´7 like Donaire and a few guys taller than that.
Great fighter in his prime and literally came out of nowhere when he starched Darchinyan the first time getting revenge for his brother Glenn.
What he did to prime Darchinyan, Montiel & Nishioka, all great fighters, was extraordinary. While the Darchinyan win is his most famous coming up as an unknown and underdog, HOW he ended Montiel, a legit (albeit underrated) P4P-er, a superb boxer-puncher with excellent sense of distance completely shocked me. Toshi KO hurt me too. At his best Donaire timed experts of the game with punches they never saw coming, especially with the left but had a monster right too. Inoue tasted some of that medicine and might not have survived prime Donaire. But he has a great chin, Noni still had power, Naoya survived & adjusted and it was a Donaire-like massacre in the rematch so I gotta go with him prime for prime. Noni tho, ATG resume & highlight reels vs. a dozen reigning, former & future world champions.
Near prime Inoue fought old Donaire in a life and death battle. By deduction, prime Donaire would have had a chance against prime Inoue.
I liked Vic. Fun fighter. But he woke up after the Donaire fight and had no idea wtf happened. That was Donaire's left hook. Watch Montiel twitching on the floor. That was scary. Donaire fell in love with his power, should have maintained and utilised his solid boxing skills.
Inoue was a bit green imo but what played most definitely a part was an injury iirc I would have loved to see Inoue of Donaire 2 versus prime Donaire tho, that would have been fireworks but honestly I could see the Monster winnin
