In past discussions I've had, re Trinidad, I've often (rather lazily, I'll admit) defaulted to a position of "Overrated"; not quite being able to articulate the balance of his pros and cons.

I will now (still rather lazily) use your synopsis above. It's about as concisely fair and accurate a summary as I have seen.

15 title defenses at Welterweight, unified there and Junior Middle, then absolutely brutalised a decent Middleweight in Joppy to win the WBA title at 160lbs. It's also worth noting what he did to Mayorga, a guy that had back to back victories over then undefeated Vernon Forrest.

Sorry guys, he's "great" by my reckoning.

Probably on my Mount Rushmore of all time favorite fighters.

Just an absolute Offensive juggernaut, power in both hands and always coming forward. I’ve described him in the past as if he were a car his accelerator would always be pressed to the floor because he was always coming forward and applying relentless pressure. I had the privilege of being a huge boxing fan already when he started showing up and watched every bout in his career. From his first title win, demolishing Maurice Blocker, I knew he was going to be something special. Guys like Luis Garcia who fought to a split decision against a near prime Meldrick Taylor, Tito would demolish these guys, Garcia in particular in one round. I remember all the years when Don King would put on his mega PPV cards. I would always be looking the most forward to Trinidad, and he would always deliver. Camacho, Campas, Carr, Barnes all good fighters, Trinidad would just grind them all out and beat them down. Troy Waters is another example of a fighter who dropped Terry Norris, and was always a tough guy and Trinidad demolished him in one round. If you weren’t elite, you had no shot. Moving up in weight and beating the career out of David Reid the unbeaten Olympic Gold Medalist and titleholder. The war and 12th round KO of Vargas who was white hot and coming off a win over a Prime Ike Quartey, another unbeaten scalp Trinidad took. Trinidad almost knocked him out in the first round!! To this day the Joppy DESTRUCTION is still one of my all-time favorite fights, Tito just absolutely pulverized a man who could not believe this smaller fighter moving up in weight could just punch him strait into oblivion, but he did!!!! As another poster said it took another all-time great and much physically larger and imposing fighter in Bernard Hopkins to finally stop the express, to me most everything after that is irrelevant. Honestly, though I would recommend watching the Mayorga fight if you haven’t seen it, it’s a great war.
